I also am trying to transfer movie files from my GZ-MG21U to my laptop and then ultimately to a DVD. I have lost the Production manual for creating dramatic movies (Version WINDOWS) in English - I have every other language which I can't read.
Is there a place where I can get access to these instructions?

You can download the manual from the manufacturer's web site at

You might want to consider NOT using a driver. The best way to download videos and pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy videos and pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any video/photo cataloging program, such as Windows Movie Maker and Windows Photo Gallery.
then just create a new folder in the root directory named MP_ROOT, and then make a folder called 100MNV01 in there. So
your .MP4 files should go into E:\MP_ROOT\100MNV01, where E:\ is the drive letter of your Memory Stick
No you cannot use Hard drive camcorders (any brand) as a web cam. Free software not available anywhere on the web but you can change your movie file extension off your camcorder from .MOD to .MPG then open it with Windows Movie Maker
i have vista and this worked for me
make sure cam is off and usb it to ur pc.
turn on cam and chose back up to pc
go to computer and open the foloders on your cam
minimize the page and drag the sd folder to your desktop
transfer files to windows movie maker
edit publish to whatever you want(dvd)
if you have vista you dont need the camera software,in fact the software sucks neway
If you have windows, you can use FFMPEG to convert the files into any format you want and then windows either windows movie maker or other software. On my mac, iMovie will automatically recognize the camera and covert the files!
