It most likely goes into standby. Check SETTINGS and Screen Settings, you can probly unselct standby or change the amount of time untill the screen goes dark.
you 6600 experienced software problem (corrupted software) and cannot boot that's why it shuts-off again.
Here is what you can do. switch off your phone and after it is totally off about 5 sec., switch it on again and immediately together you press call button (the green color), no. 3 key and the * (star key) before the nokia logo comes out. Do not release the keys until the screens displays formatting... wait until it is done and your phone will boot automatically and reset to factory setting.
try it again and again cause sometimes it will not format with just one try, it need timing to do it.

it is a software issue on the phone you need to take the phone and have the firmware reflash in the phone to get it up and running again as usual.......any mobile repair shop in your area should be able to do that for you.
