It is time to replace the driven wheel. When you flip the mower up on the back end (after closing the vent on the top of the fuel cap), the driven wheel is the disc that has rubber on the outer edge that rides on the silvery disc that comes off the end of the motor. The last time I bought one was about 7 years ago, at which time it cost me about $7.85. I would expect it to be around $11-12 these days.

Sounds like you have problems inside your gear box, The easiest way to check this is to stand the mower up on it's backend and try to turn one wheel and hold the other. You should be able to do this if you get any bucking or the rear end locking up your problem is going to be in the gearbox. FYI make sure you lock your clutch pedal down so the drive disk does not contact the friction disc

The way i would do it. get 2 qts drain and flush oil out of engine. put the drain plug back in. remove the fill plug and fill with oil. i fill mine to the first thread under the fill and ckeck plug hole. keep the rest for adding if required.
