The top of my oven door on my GE self cleaning oven has a burnt appearance and it gets worse every time I clean the oven. Am I doing something wrong?

How do i lock the self cleaning ge oven door when i put it on self clean

If you have a self cleaning oven, the door will lock automatically as the self cleaning begins. Give it some time ,it will happen. When cleaning is done it will take a while for the door to unlock. GOOD LUCK FRIEND.

H E L P !!! My oven made some noises this morning when my husband was wiping down the front of the oven door. Noise sounded like the "oven was going into clean mode"....but then only lasted...

Hello.

Please apply the solution this way!

To close an oven door when it's in the locked position and the door is open, press and hold the oven door light switch while following these simple steps:
  • Program the oven to self-clean.
  • Wait 20 seconds.
  • Cancel self-clean.
  • Wait 20 seconds.
To self-clean your wall oven, follow these simple steps:
  • Remove the oven racks.
  • Set your oven control to "Clean."
  • Select a cleaning time or choose a cleaning level: light, medium or heavy. For typical cleaning needs, we recommend that you select a cleaning time of three hours or choose the medium setting.
  • Select "Start." (To set a delayed start, see your Use & Care Guide.)

Note: For safety reasons, the oven door will remain locked until the oven cools down. When it is sufficiently cool, the door will automatically unlock.

Thanks for using fixya.

The door has turned brown around the top after 2 uses in 5 years of the self cleaning process. How do I clean that off or can it be? Is it possible to replace the door on the stove?

You can easily clean it with easyoff oven cleaner available at most grocery stores.. Yes you can replace the door but the cost would be prohibitive.

DO NOT KNOW HOW TO USE SELF CLEAN ON OVEN?

Hi April,

Without a model number, I'm shooting in the dark but I'll give you basic instructions that fit for most ovens, OK?

First off the door has to be locked PRIOR to cleaning. Look around the top of the oven door, there should be a handle (for mechanical models). Rotate this handle from the left to the right to lock it. If there's no handle, that means your oven locks the door by itself when "Clean Mode" is selected.

Now, at the control panel, select "Clean". At this point, you may have options on the length of time it should clean, select 3 hours and hit "Start".

There ya go! Hope this helps. If not, DON'T RATE THIS SOLUTION! Just write back and provide the model number, I'll give you exact instructions with that. Deal? Cool.

Self-cleaning leaves a brown stain on the white part on my oven

Perhaps the door gasket is not sealing well enough. In self clean mode the oven get very hot and vaporizes the fat off the sides. With a leak I think some of the fat is redepositing on on the outside where the leak is. You may need a new door seal.

Self-clean not cleaning

I was wrong (I think).  the baking element probably was burnt out as the repairman said.  He replaced it and I thought selfclean still wasn't working.  In fact, I think I just had to give the self-clean function more time.  Also, I was judging by smell.  We have become used to a bad odor during self clean which was missing when it was broken and still missing after the repair.  Bottom line, the oven was clean after the baking element was replaced, sans smell.
