Rear Entertainment Systems plays sound on right side only

My DVD player plays great and has worked well for 4 years. All of a sudden, I get no sound from the left side when playing DVD movies. It is the same when using the radio, wireless headphones, or headphone jack on the side of the unit. If I turn the volume way up, I hear the audio through the left but it is very soft with a lot of static. Would this be a part failure within the unit, or has something been changed some way in the setup? I have checked and rechecked the connections. The only wires used are for the dome light and power(red/blk trace, blk/red trace, red, and black) It is meant to work wireless only.

Could it be a problem with the FM modulator?

  • Shannon May 16, 2012

My thought is that there is an issue with the FM modulator. Is there a way to test it?

SOURCE: No green On/Off light. Charge light is red. I hear only static.

Two things.. Check the batteries..
Also.. since these headphones have to have a signal sent to them to activate transmission (green light simply indicates they are receiving a signal) it can take a few moments after the signal begins to activate them.
I would hazard a guess that when you unplug the cables and then plug them back in.. the feedback that generates activates the base much the same as a regular audio signal would
Finally.. make sure the source is a fixed output.. if not.. and its variable..you will have to increase the output or volume to activate the base..

Good luck!

How do i change the unsupported format to play a dvd

DVD players have 5 regions. And on the back of every DVD you buy the region code is marked in side a circle ( like a globe ).
Region 1 is North America
Region 2 is Europe . Middle East & South Africa
Region 3 is South East Asia,
Region 4 is South America, Mexico, Australia
Region 5 is India , USSR, Africa.
To change the region code of your Lifestyle 38 DVD player follow the steps given below.
Make sure you familiarize yourself with the buttons on the remote and not fumble while keying in the sequence given below.
Make sure there is no disc in the tray of the player and it is closed ( tray ).

First step - Press RIGHT arrow, UP arrow, SHUFFLE, STOP, MUTE

To change to a specific region code
Step two --- Open the disc tray
Step three --Press STOP
Step four --- Press SHUFFLE
Step five ---. Press # key for desired region from the list given above.
Step six ---- Press ENTER.
Turn off the DVD player wait for a 10 seconds and restart. It should work.
Enjoy your foreign DVD's. Cheers!!.

I have the same A/V receiver and in my setup there is an audio output (red and white able) coming from DVD player directly into Zenith Z763B. The video from DVD Player goes to TV input (yellow cable).
There might be alternatives to the setup mentioned above but I like to watch movie in a surround sound, rather than output from TV.

The DVD player does not recognize disks that it used to play before.

It sounds like the DVD region (a setting in both your OS and your DVD hardware) may have been changed. DVD regions are the agreed upon method (by entertainment companies, hardware manufacturers and governments) to limit cross-border sharing of media. Most valid (read: non-pirated) DVDs have a region code. Your DVD drive will only play DVDs with a region code that matches the DVD region code set on the DVD drive.

You didn't mention your OS but if you are running Windows XP then go to Start->Control Panel->System->System->Hardward->Device Manager and find your DVD player. Right-click the DVD player and select Properties from the menu and you should see a properties dialog-box with a DVD region tab. This is where you can change the DVD region that your player will recognize. Be careful, don't play around here, most DVD players have an embedded limit on the number of times (4-or-so) the DVD region can be changed.

Hope this helps.
