SOURCE: Recovering lost images in the camera

You might be able to try PictureDoctor. It's a program that you can download that might be able to retrieve the lost images. It's not a guarantee, but it's worth a try. I can't say how good it is though. I've never used it.
Oh and chances are, the resize didn't delete your pictures. Maybe your son accidentally reformatted your card on accident. But even then, there should still be some information on the card. If the Picture Doctor doesn't work, try going to your local camera store (Not something like Kits Cameras, but like a local photographer.)

SOURCE: unidentified images

You think you can try photo recovery software to see if you can rescue the lost photos or movies, here are some you may rely on. Both programs can also recover videos and music.

Photo Recovery Software (for Windows)
Mac Photo Recovery Software (for Mac OS X)

Be careful: Before your pictures and videos are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the memory card in case the original files(your pictures) are overwritten.

How can recover the deleted pictures in picasa

When you delete photos or folders using Picasa, they are sent to the Recycle Bin (Windows) or Trash (Mac). If you have not emptied this paper, follow these steps to recover your photos:

Windows:
Double-click the Recycle Bin on your desktop computer.
Click your right mouse button on the file you want to retrieve.
Select Restore.

Mac:
Click the trash icon.
Find an image or folder you want to recover and drag to the desired location.

Keep in mind that
Picasa is an application that acts as a photo organizer and editor. It does not store the image files, but simply accesses them when the user wishes to either view or edit the file
Hope this helps (remember to rating this answer, and leaving some testimonial comment.
