My 20 y/o Carrier fires up no problem. My problem is when the fan kicks in there is just a loud buzzing noise. The buzzing lasts for 30 seconds or so and buzzing stops. 5 minutes later again will again start buzzing. If I put thermostat in Fan position the buzzing is constant.
Please Help its 24F here in Ohio

The loud buzzing soud i found to be the fan blower motor. I removed the fan bracket assembly and sprayed a little WD-40 on the set screws and protruding shaft so that sqirrel cages could be removed. (Also marked position of set screws on shaft) once squirrel cages were removed I removed 4 motor mounting bolts. Cleaned sqirrel cages and housings with industrial strenghth rim cleaner to remove solid dirt and will replace motor and capacitor.
BTW thanks for nothing

After removing fan assembly service panel all looked very clean except there was what looked to me to be a large amount of dust inside fan motor. I was able to turn squirrel cage with no resistance. Any suggestions? Also took out four fan assembly screws, removed fan speed wire, and power wires. Any trick of trade to pull this bad boy out.. or to oil motor without doing so? ( rear panel is not accessible)
I let furnace cycle with service panel switch pressed closed with duct tape. I definitely could see motor attempt to turn squirrel cages but to no avail. Shut down power to furnace and will begin removal of fan motor. CHALLENGE: removing vent housings! unlocked set screews and marked position of screw to shaft for reinstall but cant get them removed. Was told not to use a hammer, any suggestions.
