Broken USB connection Lacie FA Porsche

I dropped my Fa Porsche Lacie hardrive ( portable ) and the USB port has dropped into the casing. I don't know if the hard drive it's self has been affected as I need to get the connection fixed first. Where should I start?

You may be able to resolder the USB port, maybe an electronics savy friend with a soldering iron will help you with this. Disassemble it and check if the traces and tabs of the usb port are still intact. If they are it can definitely be soldered. Or you can just put the HDD in a new enclosure, they are dirt cheap. If you want somebody else to do it for you there are services like Data Recovery NYC. Also there is good informaation on logic board repairs on hddguru.com.

After dropping lacie: red light and recurring audible beep.

You can only hope that the drop has dislodged the drive from the internal connections in the case and has not damaged the drive. You'll have to figure out how to get the case apart.

Lacie External HD not detected by Device Manger

it is hard to say exactly what's wrong with but I would say that is probably that the usb (if it's a usb disk) isn't working on the drive side. It has power and disk are probably working if you can hear the sound of them. But since the usb port which connects it to PC isn't working it doesn't show up in device manager.

That would be my guess based on what you wrote here

Lacie extern. hard drive is recognized, but I can't access files

Try connecting the Lacie to another computer, if it doesn't work then the hard disk may need to be formatted using Disk Manager. I suggest you format as a primary partition in FAT32.
If it doesn't work then it is possible that the hard drive in the Lacie has failed.
To test the hard drive, remove it and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port. If it deosn't detect it as an external drive and you connot open folders and files then it is faulty.
You can install a new hard drive in the Lacie and then format in FAT32
There are companies that can recover data from faulty hard drives BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.

Lacie not working

Does your drive make any unusual sounds like any of these: http://datacent.com/hard_drive_sounds.php ?
If yes then you got a problem - it's something mechanical with the heads.
If it sounds normal or doesn't spin up at all - try to connect it to another computer and if still no go - remove the internal drive from enclosure and connect directly to PC via SATA port.

If yes then you got a problem - it's something mechanical with the heads and it's not something you can fix by yourself.

LaCie F.A. Porsche Hard Drive is no longer recognized

I was able to acces the hard drive again, by replacing the cable that goes from the hard drive to the computer. Once I did that, there was no problem with the connection.

However, some of the data seems to be corrupted or lost. Still trying to sort that out, but I did retrieve most of it.
