I did try the CD cleaning kit, but it made no difference. Still would not play any CD's. Someone else has suggested that the flat ribbon cable needs to be replaced. Have U ever heard of this cable??? Then someone else suggested I run as fast as I could away from this machine. I paid over $300.00 for this CD player. Should I just give up and toss it as suggested???

Get a CD cleaning kit and follow instructions, if no change the laser pickup assembly will need to be replaced, far cheaper to buy a new player.

  • Anonymous May 14, 2012

The laser pickup overtime becomes weaker until it can no longer read the disc, the only option is to have the whole assembly replaced, this would not be practical since the cost would be greater than a new machine. The flat cable is solded to the laser pickup and to a stationary board, it is very rare for this to give trouble, symptoms would be intermittent operation and not playing the entire disc.

SOURCE: CD stuck in a 5-disc changer

There is a flat ribbon cable on the inside that is defective. The cable needs to be replaced and the loading mechanism retimed. This is a simple repair for a repair shop. Expect the ribbon cable to run around $10. Add in the local labor rate for the total repair cost. I've done many of these. This is a common problem with age.

SOURCE: Panasonic SA-PM19 Disc Changer

If this is under warranty just take it in and get it repaired. If so, I feel sorry for the technician who must fix it.

If it is not under warranty, just RUN, run as fast as you can away from this machine. Panasonic made several models with this same mechanism in it and they all have major problems. They are the hardest CD mechs to repair. A mechanical nightmare. Most places will just replace the entire mech, but that would make the repair cost about $150. It may be better to just get a new one.

Your problem is a very common one for these. I am very sorry you got stuck with Panasonic's worst CD player ever. I work at an authorized Panasonic repair center, I am being totally honest with you about this. I really do feel bad for you. How could you know that this design was the worst they ever made? You couldn't!
This is the CR16 mech (that's what panasonic named it) yo ucan call any authorized Panasonic service center and ask somebody who fixes them if they have ever heard of that mech and I would be shocked if they had anything good to say about them.

let me know if you need any more help.

SOURCE: Sharp CD-BA 2650 Error code: ER-CD 11 - the CD tray will not open

I had the same problem but fixed it by replacing the cd belt which was broken and relined the main cd plate which holds cd to correct position . and god fixed it.

No more errors and now a great cd Hi Fi.

Make sure all s aligned and blow out all dust with an blower or air compressor.

I pull the top plates off blow air into them and replaced a broken belt for cd's and not it's new machine.

You want to fix it than fix at the source.

Cd tray will not open er cd11 code

Just talked to customer service at Sharp because I had same problem with my CD trays getting stuck and would not open even if they had cd's in them. He walked me through resetting the cd system. First have unit plugged in but in standby/off. Then press the open/close button, the stop button and the CD button all at one time(beside holding unit still to keep from sliding) till the display flashes CLEAR ALL and then let go and turn unit on and see if it solves your problem. It solved mine but I did write down instructions to make sure if it happens again I can use it again. Good luck, Helen

Need to remove slide tray to get at the optisal system.

it has a rotating gear with a stopper on it.there is a limit switch to tell the motor to stop.if you do not set the timing properly,it will be out of sync and will not work.the best way is to remove the top cover, load it to play with no disc in it and you will see the pick up.do not look into it ,it is a laser beam, and can damage your eyes.if you want to clean the lense, get it to load,no disc to come up and then unplug it and clean the assembly

CD player ate a CD!!

I fixed the same issue by forcibly pulling individual trays to their open position.  I removed the casing to gain better access (tons of screws) but you can probably gain clear access to the shelfs without removing the casing if you have good needlenose plyers.  I found a stuck CD within one of shelfs, wedged WITHIN the moving components of the shelf.  It works perfectly now.

RCA RTD206 HOME THEATRE

This is an indication that the optics are either dirty or failing. Carefully open up the unit and clean the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. That should resolve the problem. If not, try playing a music CD. If the CD plays but a DVD does not, the optics are failing and need to be replaced.

Try pressing the play button on the remote. If it works correctly, the play button on the unit may be defective.

CD malfunction

It sounds like you have put a disc in the tray that the system can not read, so it will just keep trying to read the disc over and over again. If you turn everything off by the plug and wait a few mins the whole system should stop. Put the plug back in and as soon as you turn your system on, try and press the disc open key before the lens gets a chance to start reading it again. If this does not work you may just have a disc jammed. So you will have to get someone to check it out for you if you do not understand what you will be doing, because you may do more harm than good to your system. Good luck.
