The first thing you should try is removing the batteries for 20 to 30 minutes to reset the unit. If this does not work push in on the cassette mechanism at the top while trying to eject. Also check the tape compartment cover screws to make sure they are tight. Any misalignment in the cover mechanism will cause binding which will create the problem you describe. Finally, and I know this will sound unusual, slap the unit on the cassette side. Forcefully but not enough to break anything. This procedure has been helpful many times with similar problems. I know it is not sientific but hey if it works. If none of the procedures solves your problems you may need professional help. SOURCE: "reinsert the cassettee" error in Sony HandyCam CCD-TRV 438E.

The camcorder most likely is not detecting the tape, you have a bad sensor and these sensors all come on a flex type board and the flex board is mounted on the chassis surface. This will mean that the entire mechanism will meed to be diassembled, and is a very big and costly job. My opinion is that this repair will run you abut 250 to 300 bucks and this camcorder is not worth this as new camcorders are under 200 bucks. Good Luck

SOURCE: i am having a sony hi 8 ccd trv 58 model handycam.

CCD-TRV58 is analog camcorder and can not be connected with computer directly as camcorder does not have USB or iLink/ DV ports.
Computer needs digital format movie data to store / edit files.
You need to hook camcorder audio-video out to DVD recorder and burn DVD of camcorder movie so you will get digital format of movie. Put that DVD in computer and copy files for further process.

I have the DCR-HC32. I got the c:31:22 error with a message to reload the tape. I could load another tape and saw a post that if a tape is at the end and the tension is tight the camera has a sensor that won't load the tape so that it does not break it. I loosened the tape after a few tries and it loaded fine...no more errors.

Sony Handycam CCD-TRV58 Hi-8 Analog Camcorder
1. Per the manual on esupport.sony.com
- if the power is disconnected door won't open, and if the battery is the dead the door won't open.
Plug it in and hopefully you can get the tape out.

Did this work?

How do u delete stuff on tapes from a sony handycam vision

I don't know if there's a function to delete video from a used 8mm, but you can do it the old way

1. Option: the first way occurs accidentally many times because you take video on top of what's already recorded... meaning record on top of the old tape

2. Option: leave the lens on the cam, and press record... it will record a blacked-out screen on the tape with nothing on it.

hope this helps

your sony ccd-trv 108 will transfer videos(stream) to a computer using firewire connection. install the supplied software or use any program compatible for streaming like windows movie maker. use a firewire cable. check your computer for a firewire port(port with IEEE symbol) make sure that the tape is totally rewounded then press the record button on windows movie maker as the same time as you play the video from the camcorder. (its basically playing the entire video in order for windows movie maker to record it.

Tape will not eject

If you remove the power while the basket is halfway up, you should be able to remove the door. Then look to see if the reels are turning when you try to elect the tape. The error code you are getting indicates the reels are not turning for some reason. You can ssist the reels turning as the tape is ejected if you have a small plastic pick or a toothpick into the reels to assist the reels turning and tehn you may be able to remove the tape.

Cassette stuck

If battery is fully charged and unit still will not open, try removing the tape door and see if there is tape wrapped around capstan or ther parts. If you cannot find anything apparent, take unit to qualified pro tech
