Lens is stuck

You did not say which lens or lenses you are using, but most auto-focus lenses have a switch for selecting manual or auto-focus. First, check your camera's menu settings to make sure auto-focus is enabled and then your lens to make sure you did not accidently leave it in the manual focus position? If it is in the auto-focus position and still not taking sharp pictures, switch it to manual and see if you can get it to focus correctly. It is also possible that your auto-focus alignment is out because your camera was bumped, jolted or dropped. If realignment is necessary, you can send the camera and lens to Nikon for repair or find a knowledgeable camera repairman.

This error indicate that focusing ring got stuck or jammed due sand, dust, may be due to external shock caused by dropping the device.

• You can gently bump the camera to try to free the focusing ring.
• You can try to turn camera ON at the table (facing it to the ceiling), don't put camera down face to the floor when opening.
• If motor is running but lens won't retract sometimes lens would slip off with the gear or break off a tooth in the gear when it gets dropped. Try to gently move the lens barrel around with the finger and see if it is moving, but if tooth or gear is broken lens will move onces or twice then it will stuck again.

Else your camera need to be disassembled to get at the focusing ring at Service Center.

MY LENS IS ALSO STUCK OUT. I pressed on the lens by accident while it was on. Now it won't turn on and the lens is stuck out. I tried twisting it left as recommended by aplynn09 but didn't work. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!

Hello that would be "lens error", which means the camera may have been dropped, bumped or possibly a piece of sand/dirt got inside the lens mechanism.

there are tiny plastic gears inside and may have chipped causing the lens to jamb. "very fragile"

one solution is to ask a camera repair shop how much a lens mechanism would be to replace. (if cost is more than 1/2 of what you paid dont bother)

another solution is to have someone sell your camera on an auction site for parts, to make some money towards another camera purchase.

This is either an internal camera fault, in which case you might like to try and get it sorted under warranty if there is any left or its an actual lens error (normally caused by it being bumped) and would be costly to fix. If it has been dropped/bumped it may be covered under your household insurance, worth checking.

You will not fix it, the mechanism is not usually fixable If you take it apart ,you will then need the new camera.

Hopefully someone has a better answer, but no mater what mode its in, its been my experience these cameras don't like to be dropped. Sometimes they can be repaired, its just a matter of finding someone who or return camera to factory for a repair.

What you describe is the symptom of a stuck shutter. The shutter is inside the lens and must close in order for the image sensor to properly record the image. Yours is stuck open, and that is why you see the lines across your images. When a stuck shutter results from an impact it usually requires full disassembly and manual re-setting of the delicate shutter blades. This problem would require professional repair.
