I just finished swapping an ASUS P4P-E Motherboard that died on me (power up, nothing else, no CD drive opening, etc.)
I was able to find this particular board, but now I am running into a new issue:
After reinstalling all of the hardware, I power it up, get the logo screen, but nothing beyond that. The screen goes dark, no memory test screen, no beeps, zip. I am starting to think that the CPU may have gottenbought it when the board went.
Here's the rest of the hardware:
Video - Radeon 9250 - 256MB
Sound - SB Audigy ZS2 pro platinum
Memory - 1GB (2x512)
Optical Drives: 1 CD-RW & 1 DVD Rom (Both Memorex)
HD Storage - Promise FastTrak 2200 w/ 2 80GB HD (Mirrored)
Try removing all unneeded hardware leaving only the core components needed to see your board post (processor, memory, motherboard and external video if your board doesn't have onboard) see if it now posts. check to make sure your hardware is installed correctly (memory is seated and processor & heatsink are firmly inplace) Is your new board bigger than the old one? does it make any contact with the case behind the board causing it to short? You could also try your processor in another board. Good Luck

Checked your RAM chips? Remove them and boot up and see if it will beep. If you have another DVD drive, swap it and try again. The board battery rarely goes, and only change it when it is not keeping the date/time etc, it won't help in outputting video.
There should be an on board speaker remove new h/drive boot should post ok and give no boot device error make sure new drive is set for master on jumpers select auto detect h/drive in cmos if detects save reboot should work ok good luck!
unplug it open it take out annd cards, unplug any drives accept the hard drive and find the little battery, take it out and connect the two contacts where the battery was for a couple of seconds now plug it back it and try to start it up
I don't understand... are you able to POST or not?
Are you sure that both DVD drives that are on the secondary IDE channel are configured as MASTER and SLAVE by using the pins on the back of the drives?
Temporarily swapping-in another power-supply is the first thing to try.
Don't connect the disk-drives, CD/DVD drive, nor 3.5-inch drive.
If the computer "beeps", and shows the POST (Power On Self Test) screen, then changing the power-supply is the solution.
Look at the motherboard -- any "blown" or "bulging" capacitors?
The first thing to do would be to remove all non-essential hardware from the box, I mean everything. This will help isolate the problem.
Then remove all the RAM except the very basic amount. If it still doesn't work, swap out the installed RAM with the RAM you pulled possible and try it. This will isolate a RAM issue.
If that doesn't do it, you may also consider swapping out the video card. Before we go any further, try these things and report back.
Hi Conor, every SATA drive is a master drive. With that in mind you're SATA must have windows installed on it. Please disconnect the data cable & power cable's from the IDE drives.
(Do not reconnect either IDE untill you have finished).
Install windows on the SATA drive. Install all the needed drivers, than update windows. When finished Check the pin setting on the IDE drives. Set one as the "master with a slave" & the other as the slave. Than you can add both into the system. If you had windows on one of the IDE's just delete the root files on that drive so it does not conflict with the new windows on the SATA drive. Go in the bios make sure you have the SATA drive as the boot drive & not either of the IDE drives. If the system still shuts down after all this, try replacing the data cable for the IDE drives (Both should be on the same data cable). Swap the power connector from the CD-ROM drive to the IDE.
Next, if you're system still shuts down after adding either of the IDE drives, than swap the ports. Connect the CD-ROM to the primary IDE port on the board & the IDE hard drive to the IDE slave port. (This is for testing only). Double check all power connections from the power supply to the motherboard. Leave the case opened. Look at the board when booted. Watch for the the case LED's lighting up & flashing cr-rom's LED flashes, look at the CPU fan. Make sure all fan's are running & listen for the drives running.
Let me know if anything changed or not. Post any thing odd or if any thing did or didn't work & I'll go from there. Everything is a test & error soulation. One change at a time.
Sounds like a bios issue. Try resetting the bios, pg. 2-19 in user manual. After clearing the bios jumper, make sure you set it back to pins 1 & 2. If you flash you're bios during the warranty period you may void the warranty. You can call Asus M-F, EST 8:00AM-5: PM. 1-812-282-2787. Not sure you have this number in you're manual. Same problem here with my wife's Asus laptop. Called Asus and they said to unplug charger, remove the battery in the back, hold down the power button for 10 seconds. Then, replace battery, then charger, then press the power button and wait for startup. First time it got stuck at the windows loading bar screen for like 5 min. which is abnormal. Did a hard power down (press and hold power button til it shuts off) then restarted again. That time it worked and all is well so far. Could have been due to a static charge as she was on our couch with our dog backing up movies so charge might have entered through the CD/DVD drive opening. (?) Not sure, but if you are sitting on a static-prone couch with your laptop its probably best to sit on top of a bounce sheet.
