My Casio Exilim S770 won't turn on or charge in the cradle. The lights on the cradle won't even come on. I bought another battery charger and even another battery, but the camera still won't come on. When I put the charged battery in, the camera begins to heat up and even feels very warm to the touch; but will not turn on. I've taken the memory card out, checked that the battery is in correctly--but still no luck. HELP!

Im having the same problem any suggestions?

  • Anonymous Dec 04, 2008

I have the same problem as well.  I've only had the camera for 2 years and I've hardly used it at all.  The cradle doesn't have any lights that turn on, even when it's plugged in and the camera is on it.  Also, even though I know the camera already had a charge, it won't turn on either.  Nothing on the camera or the cradle responds.  I need to get my pictures off of it at least!  Please help!  Any suggestions?

I also have the same problem, when on the cradle the camera gets hot & it finally came to green so thought it was charged but the camera will not turn on. Tried the hard reset 3 times without success. I am going to buy another battery & charger off of ebay & see if that helps as SexiPlexi stated it may be the cradle, too bad they didn't give us another option for charging the battery. Any other suggestions would be great ASAP as I have a trip to Italy in 4 weeks & am at a loss & no time to send in for repairs.

I had a similar problem with mine but these were my symptoms and how I resolved it.

Firstly the camera would not switch on but I could charge it so that the green light appeared on the dock. However this was not enough to start the thing and sometimes the lens would pop out only to pop back in again. To repeat these events I had to re-charge the camera and go the the whole process again.

Now and again I could get the date set menu if I started it when in it's dock but I could get no further. To get it to do it again involved more charging and I also found I had to endlessly remove the battery and put it back in again to get any sort of life. However the camera never fully came on.

I luckily solved it by doing a hard reset approx 20 times mixed with taking the battery in and out. I left it to charge overnight and then I got the date menu back. This time I was able to progress through the menu system and do a software reset which cured the problem and now it's working again.

I think the key is removing the battery and doing hard resets. If you can do that you may get the menu up and that may get you through this. Maybee I was just lucky but I once I found out about this hard reset I knew I would be able to solve it.

Good luck people
Alan

Wow I can't believe how many people this happened to. I have the same camera and is under warranty but they said would not cover the battery. I got on Ebay and purchased another battery that came with a charger and was only 12.99 for the pair. The battery is an NP20. It is not the camera or the battery it is the charger. Apparently there is a problem with the charger on this. Trust me get a new charger and the battery will charge and work. Thanks

OMG!!!! I had the same problem. No matter what I did the camera would not take pictures the screen remained black. I could view pictures on the cradle and mess around with the menu but when I removed it from the cradle and pressed the PWR button, nothing. The lens popped out and made a sound but the scree was still black. I used the reset method that Jillianne described and it worked!!! At first it felt like a lost cause but after you replace the battery PLEASE leave it on the cradle to charge. Even if it's green! Leave it on for at least 20 - 30 mins and it'll work!

Haha, I actually just posted a question and then found a solution on another website!  Here is what the post said to do:
"Remove the battery, then press and hold on the power button for at least 10 seconds. Then replace the battery and turn on. This is a hardware reset that can be done on most electronics."
No joke, right after I did this, my camera not only turned on but also started charging when I put it back on the cradle!  I hope this helps some of you who are having the same problem!  :)

I have a casio exilim ex z77. My battery to my camera wont charge when I put it on the charger. The red light just blinks.

hi, once you charge your battery and the red light blink it means your NP-20 battery is damage and you need to buy new one.TIP- charge 1.5 hours only and if youre not using you camera for a long time its better to remove the battery.

good luck and thank you my friend

Casio Exilim works on cradle, wont turn on when off cradle

I would guess that the battery is not being charged. The problem could be poor connections between the charger & Camera or between camera and battery; or the battery no longer will take a charge.
First, clean the connections with the eraser end of a pencil. Clean the connections on the Charger and on the camer; clean the battery connections and in the camera, Charge overnight. If this does not get the camera working, borrow a battery and see if this works.

Hi i have a Casio Exilim 8.1 digital camera, ive had it about a year and its worked fine but ive just put it on charge and on the charger thers a red flashing light, were normally the red light doesnt...

The cradle is defective.  Casio replaced the first one of mine for free then they told me to sit and spin when the second one broke 8 months later.  I had only used the camera ~ 10 times.  So, I went to a big box electonic store (Best Buy) and bought a Digipower travel charger.  It charged the battery up just fine.  I also bought a Dynex Memory Card Reader/Writer to transfer the photos to  my computer.  Good luck.  The defective cradle is a known problem that Casio is refusing to correct.

It can't be switched on

What you all need to do is contact Tech Support and tell them you're having trouble with your battery. Casio will send one to you free of charge that has been tested and should work.

Won't turn on!!

lol, i had mine for a year also and had the same thing happen to me. My camera wouldn't charge or even turn on for that matter. I was stumbled. After a week of thinking about it I realised I had put the Battery in the wrong way. I dont even remember taking my battery out ever, but I have a Sandisk SD Card Plus w/ USB and when I took it I I think I accidentally popped the battery out too. Then I must have put it back in the wrong way. Make sure the (+) and (-) is on the correct sides. Hope this helps. If not, sorry
