I had the same problem used with my mac mini using the DVI connector. The problem continued with the monitor not plugged into anything. The Solution: When I unplugged the monitor cable from the monitor & cycled the power for the monitor on & off, the monitor cleared itself. I rehooked everything up & it works perfectly. Additional info- possible cause - I was using an external, filtered fan to cool my small computer. When I placed it too close to my computer, I I began hearing a every 1/2 second electical popping sound. I don't know if it was an electrical power problem since all were plugged into the same power strip, or if there was magnetic, radio or other electrical problems caused by the close proximity, but that was what was occurring at the moment the monitor then went out. You should review & share with others what led up to the failure, so we don't duplicate your meltdown!

Is the new motherboard the same model with the one you have replaced. If so, there should have no problem on it. If it is different model, then you have to reconfigure the software installed such as the driver. your new motherboard surely has the CD included where the necessary software should be installed. But, the problem is that you cannot get to the WindowsXP screen..
Windows XP CD is also bootable.. Now in the bios setup there is a portion there that tells about on how to boot whether in drive a, hard disk or cd. Choose CD and inser the bootable Windows XP. In that way you should be able to get to the XP screen. Of course, you have to restart it to make the necessary changes but before that make sure you have saved the changes youve made to the bios setup.
Now if youre able to go to the main screen, uninstall software that are with your old motherboard and install the new one.
Hope to solve your problem.

Found one of these in the dumpster at my shop today. Had the "stays on for 3 sec then turns off" issue. Problem is the bad batch of electrolytic caps of a few years ago. 2 on the power supply board were visibly swelled up (470u/16V and a 1000u/16V). Replaced them both - it's fixed. Cost 50 cents.

Hey! i had the same problem after i took the computer apart for a clean!!! What happened is that when i took the heatsink off the cpu, the thermal paste had fallen apart a little and i put it back on.... to find computer booting up for about 3 seconds then turning off. i think that when you fire the comp up it turns on the cpu causing it to overheat and shut itself off, just cleaned off old paste and put on some new paste and it fired up! hope this helps you! sorry bout the slight delay!
