Can a SInger 5050c use a double needle? I tried using one and it looks fine on the top but the bobbin thread is just one straight line on the back and doesn't look right.
The top double needle stitch looks normal but when you turn it over, the bobbin thread is a straight line and has the top threads coming through a lot to wrap around it. Anyone use a double needle on this machine before?

The top thread breaks
1. the needle thread is not threaded properly
2. The needle thread tension is to tight
3. The needle is bent or blunt
4. The needle is incorrectly inserted
5. The needle thread & the bobbin thread are not set under the presser foot when starting to sew
6. the threads were not drawn to the rear after sewing
7. The thread is either to heavy or to fine for the needle
try changing the needle--use a needle according to the fabric being sewed if thin fabric is being sewed try using a stablizer rethread the machine top and bobbin--use every thread guide make sure the bobbin is inserted correctly and turned correctly in the bobbin case also try adjusting the top thread tension just a little
try rethreading the machine top & bobbin change the needle--flat side to the back of the machine, make sure the needle is the right one for the fabric being sewed clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for lint or theads
In your community there must be a sewing machine / vacuum cleaner repair shop. You would be better off going to them to order the part you need then online or over the phone. Singer is a very popular make and it is very possible that this dealer may even stock this item. In addition to your part, you may benefit in other ways such as bobbins, thread, needles, or other fancy items you can use with your machine. Give it a try, look in your phone book. GOOD LUCK.
When you thread the top thread, ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot so the thread will seat completely in the tension disk. If this doesn't improve the stitch, try tightening the top tension. If it is too loose, the bobbin thread will lay on the surface of the fabric. When the top tension is tightened, it will pull the bobbin thread up into the fabric.
Yes, VERY frustrating! When this has happened to me it has always turned out to be a tiny bit of thread caught in the bobbin assembly. I've rethreaded and rethreaded but could only solve the problem by taking the bobbin assembly apart and finding and removing the caught thread. I use a bright flashlight to help find the caught threads.
1. Make sure the needle is up in the machine all the way.
2. Make sure the flat side of the needle is facing the rear of the machine
3. Only turn the handwheel on the side of the machine towards you, never away from you.
4.Double check your threading of the top of the machine.
5. Also make sure your using the proper needle, your machine takes the most common needle on the market but some look like it and are shorter or longer and wont work properly. Also make sure your not buying needles for a singer serger.
Threading the bobbin - winding thread onto the bobbin.
Position the new empty bobbin onto the vertical bobbin rod next to the end wheel. Click the rod to the right to engage drive. Hold the outer end wheel with left hand, and rotate the inner wheel anticlockwise by about a 1/2 turn (it stops) this removes drive from the foot and needle mechanism.
From a spool of thread on the top, thread to a loop/post on the left on the top. Then back to the bobbin you want to wind. Thread through a hole from the inside-out. Hold the thread vertically above the bobbin while you depress the footswitch to start winding. Let go when it's turned a few times.
Move bobbin shaft left, and tighten end wheel after winding enough.
Fitting bobbin-
Move footplate towards you, insert bobbin in hole so that bobbin rotates anticlockwise when thread is pulled, then pull thread into the fine notch towards you. After this position thread away from you, and slide the footplate closed.
To start / load thread. Hold the end 3" of the thread through the needle behind the sewing foot. hand crank towards you to sew first stitch in air. This should retrieve the lower thread - which you can catch with a handy pair of scissors. Then pull both threads rearwards - ready to sew.
