The scanner function can't be run. when i try to scan my doc, its appear a messages : code 5,156,61...
Turn off printer, uninstall printer from 'devices and printers', remove usb from pc, plug back in and turn on, then let windows install drivers - all works fine - thankfully windows have the device install fix for this - shame Canon software doesn't tut tut
I found a temporary solution here
Canon Printer Error Code 5 156 61 Solution
SOURCE: Canon mp610 scanning problem
The readme says that some USB hubs have an issue.
I was having problems and was connected via a hub. I removed the hub and connected the printer directly to the back of the PC and voila scanning is all good.
ALex.

One thing to check and be sure of is that your printer cable (USB) is definately a USB 2.0 cable. Canon have an issue with their printers with scanners in that the data flow sometimes isn't sufficient when an older USB cable is used. The slightest drop of data on startup or during scanning will cause a stop.
Worth trying and has sometimes solved the problem for my customers.

I had exactly the same problem (error Code:2,140,2) in Canon PIXMA MP250, and it was solved when I replaced both ink cartridges which were almost empty (almost without ink). I know an scanner problem is not supposed to be in relation with ink or printer problems, but that's the way I've fixed it. Good luck!

Stop your printer running while you are scanning photos.
It defines error because your printer and scanner running simultaneously.
Eject your printer while scanning.
