Dell 2335dn is putting smudges down one edge of printed pages

I had a paper jam and even though I cleared it the printer kept telling me there was a paper jam; since the toner was also low I replaced the toner cartridge as well. this is the first time I have replaced the toner cartridge on this unit. After replacing the toner cartridge the paper jam problems went away; however, each page as a line of half-moon shaped smudges down one side. Can you help me figure out how to get a clean print? thank you, Grace

SOURCE: Pages full of toner / toner streaking

First off, this is a comment from a random person who may or may not know ALOT about these printers and toner/printer design in general. All toners are not designed to the same specification. Toner is a combination of plastic "pigment" and iron like shavings to make it magentically attracted to the electrical charges within the unit. Different toners conform to different grades and mainly size of the particles within the blend. The manufacturer doesnt only recommend that you use their toner to make them money, yes of course it makes money, but its because when the unit is designed it is designed to use a certain grade of toner, trust me if you put the non-branded toner vs the branded toner under a microscope you would see quite a difference. Often the non-branded toner is much larger in particle size (obviousely because its cheaper to make at this spec). This causes a variety of issues from excess toner not being cleaned off of developer rollers, IDT rollers, or clogging of toner dispenser tubes in the unit and the micro filters contained at the toner dispenser assy and developer assys. Also as for the issue not changing when switching to dell branded toner - the dispenser tubes within this unit contain up to 500-1000 pages worth of toner, making no change in toner you make immediately visible. Also depending on the damage caused by the previous toner, it may not be able to be fixed until all the components in between the toner and final delivery (drum cart) are replaced. In this case more than likely the toner dispenser assy, all developer assy's, and drum cartridge need to be replaced, and than be sure to stick with factory branded toner :)

SOURCE: Dell 1720dn takes extra blank page at end of job and jams

There are rubber rollers that grab the paper to pull it through typically these get slick over time and will cause the printer to grab an extra sheet of paper. How I usually fix this problem is to check and see if the rollers are slick if so then I take an Emory board to them to rough them up just a little bit. I have also in the past used clear finger nail polish on the roller and that has helped. I would apply a bit of the clear polish to the roller, if it did not work then I would take the Emory board to it.

I have a Dell 2335DN laser printer that produces a 'paper jam 0' error message but there is no paper jam. I open and close the paper tray multiple times until the paper actually prints. Suggestions?

I imagine this is a Lexmark model and if so then all you need to do is clean the pickup roller. that's the one that pulls the paper out of the tray. Use a damp cloth and put a little fairy liquid on it and clean the roller. Fairy liquid is a great degreaser and will remove all the oil from the rollers surface. it will then pickup first time provided the roller has not worn smooth.

Smudge line on side of page

Smudges are most likely from the toner cartridge. If you can take your finger and run over the print and it smudges, then it is the fuser.

My HP 4100 printer prints with a black smudge clear down the page. I clean the roller but continues to print bad copies. Should I replace the cartridge?

Problem is either the cartridge or the fuser.
Put paper in the manual feed tray(tray 1)
Print something. When the paper gets 1/2 way into the printer, open the
top cover. Pull out the toner, look down at the paper.
If it has the smudge replace the toner. If no smudge, replace the fuser.

The printer was working fine then got a paper jam. I cleared it and now the printer runs but prints nothing, not even the test page. Is it the toner cartridge?

Perhaps. Try removing the toner cart, re insert it and at the very end the edge you are holding should drop a little as it seats.
If you mean it runs but no feed of paper, then you ripped out a paper sensor arm clearing the jam. Tell me where the jam was and I will help you further.

Epson Stylus 580rx won't identify vellum paper

Ran into the same problem. The problem is that the printer's paper sensor sees through the vellum and therefore doesn't think any paper moved into the print position. To use vellum, fold up 1/4" edge on a standard peice of print paper and place the leading edge of the vellum under the flap. Place the paper and vellum into the printer and print. The printer will pull in the paper and the vellum together. Make the paper fold tight and straight to prevent jamming. You will need to feed one sheet at a time. Also the Epson inks take a long time to dry on vellum. I let mine dry overnight.

BLACK SMUDGING

Hmm... This sounds like it is a toner problem. If your roller is getting too much toner then it just globs it onto the paper even though the drum is not asking for it. Are you using a new toner cartridge or a re-filled one? Is it from Brother or a 3rd party? I suggest you remove the toner cartridge and check inside the printer. Clean any spilled toner. Check the toner cartridge for leaks .. give it a good shake and see if it is leaking. If you have another toner cartridge, you can replace it to test. You may need to pint a few pages to see a change. Another test could be to print a few (2-5) "BLANK" pages. The printer should not be depositing any toner. If no smudge or the smudge stays the same, then the toner cartridge is the likely problem. If the smudge is there, but gets smaller, then clean your printer.

Good luck!
