SOURCE: my red light wont go out on cisco 7940 phone, even

Hi,

Has this just stopped working, or has it never been working?

On the call manager / CME the MWI (Message Waiting Indicator) needs to be configured. This could be undertaken either via the GUI or from the CLI

For instance ...

ephone-dn 30
number 8000...
mwi on
!
!
ephone-dn 31
number 8001...
mwi off

and also mapped to each phone to enable MWI status

ephone-dn 1 dual-line
number 111
label Chris
name fred
call-forward busy 800
call-forward noan 800 timeout 10
huntstop channel
mwi-type visual

Complete config details are at:http://www.ciscosystems.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/command/reference/cme_m1ht.html#wp1018439

If this helps pls leave feedback

SOURCE: my cisco ip phone 7960

You can try a couple of things: Unplug the power cable from the phone, hold dows the # key, and then plug the power cable in again. The phone begins its power up cycle. Release the # key after the Speaker button is no longer lit. You should see the following message on the phone: "Reset key sequence detected" Press 123456789*0# within 60 seconds after the Headset, Mute, and Speaker buttons begin to flash. If you enter this key sequence correctly, the phone displays this prompt: Keep network cfg? 1 = yes 2 = no In order to maintain the current network configuration settings for the phone when the phone resets, press 1. In order to reset the network configuration settings when the phone resets, press 2.
Or to perform a full reset: Press **#** to reset the Cisco IP Phone 7960

You will need to configure this through whatever SIP gateway you are using, it is not configured through the handset.

How can I upgrade my frimware on the Cisco 7960, it is a 3 and needs to be 7?

Best and easiest way is to plug it into a newer callmanager. The firmware will be upgraded regardless of wether or not it is able to register.

I have tried repeatedly and I can not get my phone to set up. Not even sure what the phone # is. I need it from the start to the finish. I also need my work # to forward to my cell phone 817-713-1767.

What service are you using to provide your SIP? The 7960 requires a call manager, or other network bootable server to make the phone function. It will not function on its own.

7906G Home VOIP installation Problem

Then you need power adapter for Cisco 7960 IP phone ( -40V DC).
Cisco phones work best with Cisco, and sometimes ONLY Cisco switches.

One question which voice gateway you will use for your 7960 VoIP phone calls to go through ?
(AT&T probably supports only their IP Phones with special and usually hidden settings from end user)
