Check your disk if your files are hidden. Some virus turns folder and files attribute Hidden. To check START>RUN>CMD then go to your disk's drive letter. (e.g. E:) type E: (enter) then type dir/ah.

Testimonial: "Thank you so much I can see my files now in the command prompt will i be able to see them in the windows explorer..? let me see...? no i can't but i can see them from the RUN command. how to I get them back to where I can access them?"

Go to Command Prompt then to your drive. type ATTRIB -S -H -R /S /D
this will make hidden files appears. -S (clear system file attribute) -H (clears hidden file attrib) -R (clear read only attrb) /S /D (applies to folders and sub folders.) :)

You probably have a computer-virus.
Backup your data/music files to an external device (USB memory-stick or external disk-drive).
Reinstall Windows.
Repeatedly, run Windows Update to update it.
Install anti-virus software: http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials

Acer 9300-5349 running Vista Home Premium

Hi run msconfig anything in there that does not start with c\windows or has a .exe file these are normally short lines means there is a bug in your system, and restoring it moves it to your restore point, my advise is to get an external hard drive move all your needed files to it then re format drive and start again. so far i have not found one anti virus or sytem cleaner to remove this bug so have rebooted and re formatted to save me grief.
