Zebra 105SL
just installed it and when I print my label the media sticks to the ribbon misses the cutter and shoots out the top or wraps around the spool with the ribbon.

    Nope.

    checked and it looks right.

  • 1darklion Nov 20, 2008

I opened the head and losened 2 screws this let a small plate slide down I then tighten the screws back up.

Maybe this will help aid in dividing the 2 up.

    so far it is working.

When you say switch are you meaning a physical switch or simply in the settings.

well, its a rubbery label we heat seal it on the inside of garments.

    white,, ours comes in a roll about 1 1/2" - 2" wide

we are required to use this type because of national standards I would think.

  • 1darklion Nov 20, 2008

don't know about speed, I am using it with a custom program with Oracle.

this label has a 2d barcode, complete garment info and 1 d barcode

Could you give me a physical location of the switch on the head of the SL?

    thanks again!

  • 1darklion Nov 20, 2008

Make sure that the ribbon options are turned on the printer. If you recently switch from using thermal stock which doesn't require a ribbon, then it needs to be turned on in the control panel of the printer.

If it is on, remove the ribbon cartridge from the unit and manually turn the wheels to make sure it is moving freely.

Usually on the printer there is switch the changes the gap from thermal to ribbon. Your on the right track though. It it continues, it could be a broken belt on the takeup motor for the ribbon cartridge.

Yes there is a physical switch or lever on the head of the printer. By default, the printer is usually set to run thermal stock. The print head has to be in contact with the paper to get it to work. If it is set in that mode and the transfer ribbon is in use, it will drag on the label stock.

Just out of curiousity, how come you aren't using thermal labels instead?

Your using it for garmet tags. Yes your probably right about that. When I worked for Pitney Bowes several I knew clothing company in Seattle that was using one of Monarch label printers that way. It was pretty fast.

Usually it is on the side of the thermal print head. Do you have a manual for that printer?

Most of them are running thermal these days because of the labels for shipping and mailing but for the ones that need it for ribbon transfer systems, it should be useful.

I hope I helped you there.

I have a Zebra 105 SL, I have the ribbon installed but the printer tells me that the ribbon is out. I've tried changing the ribbon and labels out but as soon as I power it back up and try printing again...

Calibrate the printer from the setup menu.

You'll (1) Load the label backing with the ribbon (2) remove the ribbon - just shove it to the right, out of the way of the ribbon sensor (3) reload the label and ribbon.

The printer will run a number of labels out.

Zebra 105SL runs out of ribbon, the printer still continues to run, have tried calibration, still not stopping when ribbon runs out

Make sure that you have the printer set for THERMAL TRANSFER printing and not DIRECT THERMAL. It is possible to run the printer in DIRECT THERMAL MODE with the ribbon installed so in that case when the ribbon runs out the printer will not stop.

We have a Zebra 105SL thermal printer. When I print to it with any application, the data light comes on, but it doesn't print. It has ribbon, media, calibrated, no error lights

The data light indicates that the printer is receiving data. Hold the cancel key for 10 seconds while powering on. This will print printer configuration. Use to troubleshoot. If the data or format is wrong it will not print as you send data. Make sure you are using the 105SL printer driver. To test the printer functionality you can go to www.teklynx.com and download a demo copy of labelveiw, select the 105SL printer and try to print a simple label. If you can print with labelveiw then it is not a printer problem. Double check your driver and label format.

Zebra 105sl laebls always come out blank

Power on while holding the pause button for 5 seconds. This should print black bar across the width of the label. If this prints, then check the darkness parameter in your label format or driver. Also check to make sure your ribbon is feeding coated side out. There is a shiny side and a dull side to a ribbon. The dull side should be against the media. If it is leaving an image on the ribbon and nothing on the label the ribbon is either loaded incorrectly or not a zebra ribbon.

The Zebra 105sl is not printing fluently. By that I mean it will print two rows of labels, then stop for two rows, then print two rows again. My question is how do I get it to print continuessly without...

1st try to calibrate the machine. It might not like the media (labels) you have in it. Try the basic calibration by going through the menu and print the sensor profile. If that doesn't work, try the media and ribbon calibration option.

Zebra 105SL thermal Label Printer prints blank with new supplies

Some possible reasons:
1. The darkness is not set high enough for the paper/ribbon combination
2. The ribbon is on backwards. Zebra uses coated-side out ribbons so the ribbon should be coming off the right side of the roll if you're looking at it from the side.

Hope that helps !

Will print on sticker labels, but not on thick price ticket paper

If you are not using ribbon, the tickets are probably not Direct thermal. Try using a Ribbon and see if it works

After cutting the label the printer pulls media back about 1/2''

you can adjust the tear off position.
check if need the backfeed and what setting, if you need, you be able to stop doing that (no back feed) but can change the print on the lable.
