I got a used SL-1200MK2. It powers up fine, but when you hit the Start button, it typically either does nothing; or it will rotate a couple of inches (and this could be either clockwise or counterclockwise) before stopping; or, it will move just a hair as the Start button was pushed. I used DEOXIT spray on the circuit board pot (VR201) that controls the Braking, and it seemed that this might well be the problem, as the unit came to life, and worked fine for about a day. It then reverted to its prior behavior which I noted above, of not spinning when the Start button was pushed. I tried using DEOXIT again, and turning the aforementioned pot back and forth to try to get better contact, but it did not seem to help anything this time. Hoping someone is aware of a possible defect that could cause this intermittent problem.

More than likely this metal ball is the one that is used with the on/off switch.
SOURCE: The platter on my Technics SL 1200MK2 stopped spinning
If you remove the rubber pad from the top of the platter then you should be able to lift the platter off the servo drives' center shaft,
from memory the unit is not attached just held on by gravity,if the servo magnet is gone the take it in for a service and pay the man for his time,
My first problem on my 1200s was a pitch control issue and easy to fix, with a little cash, never use second hand parts unless you know what you are doing because when they fail on you while playing to a packed dance floor then youll get more of a supprise than you barginned for,

SOURCE: i have sl-1200mk2, and the signal does not come in
The first thing to is try to eliminate the cartridge as a cause of the fault. You can do this by swapping the connections around on the cartridge. If you get the weakness still on the Red cable you know it is that. Solder joints do cause trouble, often the earth is the problem. Try resoldering the joints. Or replace the entire cable as there might be a break.
SOURCE: Fried power on technics SL 1200MK2.
If you are lucky then just the fuse may have failed - usually F1 / 250mA / 20mm type.
If your unlucky the transformer may have fried - mail me for a price [email protected]
