I have an over the range Hotpoint Microwave model# rvm1335bc001. It was working fine yesterday. This morning it won't reheat my coffee. It powers on, lights on, turntable rotates, but instead of the humming sound when activated, it has a growling noise instead. It cannot be the fuse because it powers on, is it the magnetron, and if it is so, can someone with some electronics and electrical skill fix it? If not the magnetron, what can the problem be (other than being a 2000 year model? Thanks.
There's power but won't heat.

Thanks for mentioning that growling sound, which is a classic clue to a bad mag, though not all bad ones make that sound. Sounds like someone growling into a coffee cup! *grin* For this job, the unit will probably have to be taken down from the wall mount. I recommend 2 people for that job. A spotter, if you will. When replacing the magnetron, it's very important to be sure the new one has the wire mesh "washer" (RF gasket) around the antenna which sticks out the top. If it's not on the new one, use the one from the old mag. Very important. Also, you should really discharge the high voltage capacitor. This case also illustrates an interesting thing about part prices: GE http://www.geappliances.com/shop/prts/ WB27X10017 $121.75 Appliance Parts Pros http://tinyurl.com/gv383 10QBP0230 $60.42 (check this one to be sure picture matches yours) A-1 http://a-1catalog.com/10qbp0230.html 10QBP0230 $54.00 Tritronics http://www.wehaveparts.com 10QBP0230 $42.85 I can advise you further concerning safety and disassembly if you need help: http://www.fixya.com/GetServiceUrl.aspx?advid=14&ctgid=153
Yes. This is exactly what I have on my GE model JE 1660. After a few times when the pannel displayed Sensor Error but worked find after restrating it suddenly it stop working a few weeks later. The current is on as evidenced by the lighted pannel, and the turntable works but, it does not heat food or water and has a very loud growling noise. Its a 2000 model. Is it better to get a new microwave or try to replace the megatron?
SOURCE: microwave turntable does not turn
In microwave ovens, I have had the turn table motor unit become defective, or the power source to it has failed.

SOURCE: Hotpoint Counter Saver Microwave not working
Please do not try to service. its dangerous to play with the internal parts of a Micro Wave. Most counter tops are pretty inexpensive buy a new one if the warranty is out.

Usually answered in minutes!
same problem but there is no growling sound it sounds normal.
Same symptoms but without the growl.
Door safety switches appear to work just fine. i.e., not broken and move.
Thanks for the fix! Since I had Home Warranty (appliance) insurance, I opted to spend $50 on my Warantry insurance and got the Magnetron replaced. Works like a charm! I saved much moolah over buying a brand new Microwave. You guys ROCK!!!!
Same problem with "growling sound."
I HAVE THE SAME SITUATION HOWEVER THERE IS NO GROWLING NOISE ?????? RUNS QUIET BUT DOES NOT HEAT
Touchpad lights up and works, oven sounds like its working, internal light works and carousel rotates, but items do not heat up. Can this just be a fuse or is it the magnetron?
