Emerson Smartset Clock Radio

I have had this clock radio for about 2 years now. At times it will show only part of the numbers and the radio will not work. I have unplugged it and then plugged it back in and still doesn't work. But if I unplug it for a day or two and then plug it back in I have to set the time and the radio will begin working again. What is the problem?

SOURCE: Emerson Smartset Clock Radio

For the Clock/Radios that are having problems with the clock display and settings. You will have to reset the Clock/Radio's microprocessor. To do this you must unplug the Clock/Radio from the wall outlet and remove the internal battery. You must let the Clock/Radio set with no power for at least 1 hour to discharge the microprocessor circuits. The microprocessor should then be able to reset itself. You can then reinsert the battery and plug the Clock/Radio into the a/c wall outlet. The functions should have reset and be working normally. If this does not solve the problem, try putting in a new battery (CR2430). Before putting in the new battery, unplug the clock radio and remove the old battery and let it set again for a few hours this time to try to reset the microprocessor. If this does not solve the problem (This includes the person with the complete Clock/Radio operation failure) you can call the Emerson customer support at this telephone number 1-800-898-9020. Give them the make and model number of the Clock/Radio. Tell them the problems you are having with the operation of the Clock/Radio and ask them for assistance. I hope this information helps you solve the problems your are having with your Clock/ Radios.

SOURCE: emerson clock radio cks 3516 military time

You will need to try some combination of the set button and time button to change the time back to normal time. Try hold both the time and set button for a period of 5-10 seconds and see if this will cycle the time to normal. If not try hold the set button alone for 5-10 seconds and see if this works. If not try holding the time time button for 5-10 seconds and see if that works. If none of the fixes work. Call Emerson customer support at this telephone number 1-800-898-9020 between the hours of 9am-5pm CT. Tell them the make and model number of your Clock/Radio and ask them for assistance with your problem of resetting the time back to normal from military time. They will be able to help you. I hope this information helps you solve your problem.

Daylight Saving Time Changes for SmartSet Clock/Radios

Dear Emerson SmartSet® Clock/Clock Radio Owner:
Your Emerson SmartSet® Clock or Clock Radio includes Emerson’s patentedAuto Time Setting System that
automatically sets the clock to the correct year, month, date, day and time, the first time that you plug it in, and
after every power interruption. It also includes a built-in long life lithium battery that can maintain the time and
alarm settings for up to 5 years, or even longer.
As an added benefit we have programmed the internal SmartSet® computer to automatically adjust for Standard/
Daylight Saving Time changes through the year 2097. TheDaylight Saving Time information programmed into
all SmartSet® models was based on the United States Uniform TimeAct of 1966, which formalized theDaylight
Saving Time period that we observe today. CurrentlyDaylight Saving Time begins on the first Sunday in April
and ends on the last Sunday in October.
The new Energy Bill that was signed into law by President Bush in August 2005 includes a provision to
extend Daylight Saving Time. Beginning in 2007 Daylight Saving Time will begin on the second Sunday in
March and end on the first Sunday in November.
Of course this is a situation that is beyond the control of Emerson, or any other company that produces
devices with an automaticDaylight Saving Time adjustment feature. For example most computers, PDA’s, and
many other devices also have automatic DST adjustments. Manufacturers of these devices must now begin to
make adjustments to the automatic DST software to agree with the new DST timing for 2007.
Beginning in 2007 the current automatic DST default settings in this device would no longer be correct. It
would then be necessary for you to manually adjust the TIME ZONE setting 4 times each year as follows:
1.) On the second Sunday in March you would have to set your clock to the next lower number time zone.
For example if you lived in the Eastern Time zone (Zone 02) you would then change your clock to Zone
1 to move it ahead by one hour.
2.) On the first Sunday in April, this clock will automatically advance by one hour. You must then set the
clock back to your correct time zone. For example if you lived in the Eastern Time zone you would set
your clock back to Zone 02.
3.) On the last Sunday in October you would again set your clock to the next lower numbered time zone.
4.) On the first Sunday in November you would again set your clock back to your correct time zone.
Instructions for changing the Time Zone setting are found in the Owner’s Manual.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause due to circumstances that are beyond our control.

After 2 years Smartset presents problems

You must try to reset the microprocessor in the Clock/Radio. To do this you must unplug the Clock/Radio from the A/C power source. Then remove the Internal battery(CR2430). Let the Clock/Radio set without a power source for about 3 hours. This will discharge the microprocessor and reset it. After you have discharged the microprocessor, you can reinstall the internal battery. Connect the Clock/Radio to the A/C power source. The Clock/Radio's Functions should have returned to normal function. If the Clock/Radio did not return to normal function, you must replace the internal battery and again let the microprocessor discharge. After the microprocessor has discharged, put in the new internal battery and reconnect the Clock/Radio to the A/C power source. The Clock/Radio should have returned to normal function. If you are still having problem with the functions of the Clock/Radio, You will have to call Emerson Customer Support.
