All of a sudden one day, my TV remotes stopped working properly for my Hitachi TV and HD receiver. The universal remote only works from close range now, and can not control the TV volume or other TV options. However, the remote that came with my TV also does not work. Oddly enough, the remotes will work sometimes for a few minutes, then they are back to their old ways.
I tried changing the batteries, but that didn't work.
I've had this TV and HD box for over a year and have never had this problem before.
I don't know if this is related, but my TV will not go into low power mode now when my HD receiver is turned off.
Since you said that the remote that originally came with the television does not work either, it's most likely a problem with the IR sensor in your television.
To make sure that something more important with the television did not fail, the next time this occurs, walk up to the television and attempt to manually change the options using its controls.

thanks for the answer, however, the HD receiver is also having issues. The remote only works from close distance as well. Obviously the HD receiver has its own sensor, and the odds that both the tv sensor, and the hd receiver sensor are having problems is very low.
my remote just will not work, it will work on other hitachi tv's but not mine and their remotes will not work on mine either.
