Windows 7 driver load issue

I have a problem trying to get my scanner function to scan pdf so I deleted the printer and was trying to reload the drivers. Now I get an error message stating: Failed to create print object Lexmark 5600-6600 series. The specified port is unknown. (1796). How is anyone supposed to know what the heck that means and how to fix it? What does it mean?

Why scanner is not scanning.

The very first thing to diagnose such issues is: make sure if your printer is communicating with your computer and you are able to print at least. You can try to copy some stuffs to make sure the printer/scanner is functioning fine and it's causing issues with computer. You should installed the updated driver/firmware as well.

I am trying to allow my printer to send scans to my computer as pdf's I am using windows 7 and the set up I have is for windows xp

Friend,
It is not the printer or scanner that decides what the document should be saved as. It is the word processor that does it. Like Word should have the capability to save any document as pdf file. Scanner will only scan the document and send it to be displayed on the word processor screen. Then you have to decide form Save As as to what you can save it as. Some WPs do have this capability but not all.

Just got a new computer w/windows 7 and now my brother mfc-8840D won't scan to pdf now? Any ideas on a solution to fix?

How to get a MFC-8840/D/DN to scan to Windows 7 over the network or by USB:

First - Download the Windows Vista Full Driver & Software Package from Brother: Brother MFC-8840DN driver download page

Install the drivers using a custom install - pick only the Network scanning drivers, unless you want the other junk - no promises on how well the other stuff works.
-------
Alternatively, if connecting the MFC-8840DN to Windows 7 by USB, download the Printer and Scanner Driver for Local Connection. It is a separate download. Install only the Scanner driver.
-------

Once the Vista scanner driver is installed, you can test by running the built-in Windows 7 Scanner Wizard. Here are instructions on how to test.

As far as conversion to PDF, that will depend on the software. I am not sure if the Control Center or Paperport softwares work on Windows 7. I have not tried those. I have found that freeware STP will works fine.
Here is a link to the STP homepage.
Here is a link to how to use STP with the Brother MFC-8840DN

I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO SCAN FROM MY COMPUTER. tHERER USED TO BE A WIZARD A PERSON WOULD CLICK ON, NOW APPARENTLY ON wINDOWS 7 THEY HAVE REMOVED THE WIZARD??? [email protected]

Reload the software for the scanner. First remove the software from the control panel then reinstall it. You should have the wizard back. If not you need to go to Control Panel-System-Hardware-Device Manager and see if your scanner is listed as a device. It may need a windows 7 driver if it appears with a yellow exclamation point. If it is not showing you need to go to the manufacturer site and download a new driver. Windows 7 has a lot of hardware driver issues. Once you see the scanner listed in the device tab without any yellow exclamation point you should be good to go!

Scanner problems

This worked for me. You want to start fresh so delete your HP printer in "Printers and Faxes". Also delete any HP software that loaded in Control Panel "Add and Remove Programs". Next in Control Panel under "Add and Remove Programs", the "Add and Remove Windows Components" TAB, check mark the file to add called "Other Network File and Print Services". After clicking next, the extra print files will load. Reload your software/ HP drivers and it should be fine.

Hi , did you try a manual copy thru the printer operator panel to make sure that there are no issues with the hardware , if it is copying manually then its an issue with the software , you need to uninstall the printer drivers through the Printer Disk ****make sure to disconnect the printer cable from the computer before uninstalling the drivers **** once the printer drivers are uninstalled restart the computer and get into the Safemode (**keep tabbing F8 when the system restarts for safemode**) and delete the following Folder " SPOOL " it is located under C:\WINDOWS\system32. after deleting the Spool folder restart the computer and install a fresh copy of drivers it will resolve your issue.
Do let me know once you perfrom these steps.

Scanner Error Message

Hi,

I understand that you are unable to scan from computer as well as from the printer front panel.

The issue that you are experiencing might be with the USB drivers unable to detect the printer.

However, please follow the below given instructions to resolve the issue.

Check for the communication between the computer and the printer by following the below given instructions:

To isolate the issue I suggest you to try scanning from Imaging for Windows which will scan from the all-in-one product using TWAIN software instead of the HP software.

1.Verify that the all-in-one product power is turned on and the printer cable is properly connected.

2.Click Start then Click Programs then Click Accessories then Click Imaging.

3.From the Imaging application, click File, and then click Select Device.

4.Select the HP all-in-one device from the TWAIN source list.

5.Click File, and then Acquire Image.

If you are unable to scan from the above steps, then confirms that the issue is with communication.

Refresh the USB composite drives to resolve the issue.

1. Right-click My Computer (in Windows XP, click Start first), and then click Properties.
2. Select the Hardware tab and then click Device Manager.
3. Click the Plus (+) sign next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
4. Click the USB Composite Device entry to highlight it, and then click Action and then click Uninstall. If a screen appears to confirm the deletion, confirm the deletion.
5. Disconnect the USB cable to the all-in-one, wait a couple seconds, and then reconnect the cable. This should restart Windows device detection (Plug and Play).
6. A New Hardware found screen may appear, click Next through all of the screens that appear for the Wizard to install the USB Composite Device. Click Finish once the wizard completes.

Then try scanning, even if the issue still persists uninstall and reinstall the USB drivers:

1. Save and close all programs that are currently running.
2. Click Start, select Shut Down, and choose Restart the computer.
3. Press the F8 function key, this will display the Windows Startup menu.
4. Select Safe mode.
5. After Windows loads in Safe mode, right-click the My Computer icon and select Properties.
6. Select the Hardware tab and click the Device Manager button.
7. In the Device Manager Window, double-click the Universal Serial Bus controllers.
8. Right-click the device listed under Universal Serial Bus controller and select Uninstall.
9. Click OK to confirm the removal of the device.

NOTE: Repeat steps 8 and 9 until all the devices under Universal Serial Bus Controller are removed.

The USB port is now uninstalled.

Now, restart the system. The system automatically detects and reinstalls the USB port.

Then try scanning this should resolve the issue.

If you are unable to scan from software, try running the scan diagnostic utility from the below weblink:

Here is the web link to download scan diagnostic utility:

Just copy and paste the entire link into the Internet browser's address bar and press enter.

Even if the issue still persists uninstall the complete All-in- one software and reinstall it.

This should resolve the issue.
