Is there a way to adjust the picture size?

  • thosell Mar 23, 2009

I have the same problem w/top and bottom cut off. No distortion. I thought is might be the vertical height, but I thought that was only older tvs. Mine is and Apex Model AT2704S. Is it just and adjustment screw inside?

    Thanks

You don't give a model number or age of the set so I can't be too specific, but there is an adjustment for picture size (it's actually termed "vertical height") in TV sets. Many newer sets make adjustments through a service menu using the remote control, but many sets have a physical adjustment control inside. I can't tell you how it is in your set, but you can take the back off and look at the circuit board. If you see a small round adjustment control (screwdriver slot for turning) marked "vertical size," "height," "vh" or something similar, that's the one. A little turn one way or the other will do the trick.

Now having said all that, it's also possible there may be bad capacitors in the set's vertical circuit. Is this a problem that just started, or that's gotten worse over time? Do you notice distortion at the top of the picture, like a person's head or other round object looking stretched out if it's at the top of the screen? If so, that's usually a sign of capacitor failure. There are a few in the vertical circuit, usually in the range of 1 to 10 mfd at 50 volts, and they commonly go bad with age. Without knowing what model TV you have I can't suggest specific part numbers.

Hope this helps or gives you a start.

UN46EH5300 adjust screen size to get whole picture and closed captions

Sounds like you have it on zoom setting. Go to the picture menu and scroll through the options. Start with 16:9 and try others if this doesn't work. If you've already tried this, you may have to go into screen setting and manually draw the picture in horizontally and vertically - but make sure you've got it on 16:9 and paused on a typical picture before you mess around with these settings.

E472VL picture on HD cable channels does not fit screen correctly-how can we fix it?

Consult the manual---the answer lies in the size controls being grayed out so you cannot adjust or try to adjust the vertical size!

My gmail area is so small i cant read it?

You can hold the Ctrl button and scroll your mouse wheel up, this will enlarge your screen. Or look to the lower right of your browser window and you should see a zoom icon you can set the screen size here or use the view tab at upper left where it says view to adjust screen/text size. This being said for IE

Bottom of picture is cut off

Usually when the vertical starts shrinking slowly, it is due to capicators getting out of tolerance in the vertical output section of the chassis. If it can be adjusted out through a service menu, you'll probably need a tech with the right equipment to perform it.

Sansui - BOTTOM OF SCREEN CUT OFF

Your problem is not a vertical alighnment or size adjustment. No, Im sorry to say its the old vertical output IC and /or the small capacitors around the ic and in the vertical circuit. If you dont have the right tools, like a soldering iron a multimeter know how to read a schematic diagram, then you should seek out a repair person to assist you in this repair.
