Reboot the voicemail. After 10 minutes, reboot the phone system. See if that does anything.

What happens when you hit feature 981?

  • Anonymous Nov 19, 2008

Since the feature comes up as "Inactive feature" that means the phone system can no see the voicemail.

Unplug the power from the vociemail, let it stand for 20 seconds, and replug in.

    Wait 10 minutes.

Do the same to the phone system.

    Then try the Feature 981....

Sounds like the voicemail took a dump. I would call a pro in to verify though. As they are fairly expensive.

Check it out everyone, you do the following to reset your mailbox
then once you do that you pick up the handset, hit feature 981 and enter the default password of 0000 after that WAIT for an automated voice that comes on and walks you through whatever you need to do.

to reset mailbox

without lifting the handset
Feature
985
9
73738767793
ok
yes

then without lifting the handset again
hit feature
983
1020000
Mbox
enter the box number (extension)
reset
next
hangup ke

at this point our mailbox will be reset to 0000, hit feature 981 0000# and wait for the voice like I said at the beginning and let her walk you through whatever you need to do.

When I hit feature and 983 on my T7316E Notel it says feature not active. It was active. How do I get it back

If your voice mail feature codes arent working(F983, F981 etc,)then the voice mail is not being recognized by the telephone system. You could try resetting the power to the voicemail unit and see if it comes back online. When you reset the voice mail it could take up to 10 minutes for it to fullly come back online.

How do I transfer a voicemail on my phone to someone else's voicemail?

Listen to the complete voice mail, then when it finishes (or you fast forward) choose COPY
You can then record your own voice message intro to the message explaining why you have transferred it.
Once you choose yes or no to recording your own Intro you will get to choose the mailbox you would like to forward the voice mail to.
Enjoy!

I have a Norstar T7316E phone system. I need to

Depending on the type of voicemail you have It can be accomplished by calling in to the office and when the main greeting starts playing press **, the administrator mailbox number, the password and the pound key (the administrator password must be changed from 0000). Once in the mailbox press either 9 or 99 at this point you can re record the main greeting.

Nortel T7316E Voicemail

It sounds like both phones are set to ring on incoming calls and both phones are set to call forward to voice mail box with the same amount of rings . you should turn off the ringing for both phones that way it will not jump between the to mail boxes . now when a call is trans it will go to the box .

How do i set up a voice mail greeting on my nortel phone?

bodell,
The short version of getting to your greeting is:
Feature 981 or open voicemail key
your password
"8"for admin
"2" for greetings
"1" for record
"1" for primary greeting
"'1" to record your greeting
at the tone record your greeting
"#" to end recording
after you record press 1 to listen 2 to retry or # to accept
press "rls" key when finished
hope that helped.

Going to voicemail

The phone you have can go on several different Norstar phone systems and you can have several different types of voice mail. Your voice mail (and possibly the phone system) needs to have programming changes, not the telephone. Your first step is to determine which Nortel phone system you have and also what model voice mail. You will need manuals for the phone system and voice mail. Hopefully you already have a programming or administration manual for the voice mail. Someone should have gotten this information when the system was first installed but that could have been many years ago.

What happens when you are waiting for that time? Do you hear absolutely nothing? Instead of being sent directly to your voice mail box, it may be sending callers to a voice mail branch where you would normally have a recording "press 1 for this, 2 for that" If there is no recording the system will wait for a response that the caller has no idea of and usually replay the message 3 times before defaulting to your mailbox (in this case a blank message). That is my best guess with the information I have from you so far.
