Touch Panel on M15-9PB RV microwave hard to push

The buttons on the touch panel on our M15-9PB microwave are getting really hard to push. Is there a fix?

You have a failing keypad.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

Your membrane keypad is failing.

Actually this job on this model can be completed by a do-it-yourselfer (you or a friend) pretty easily and at around $50 or so. Here's how:

You can order the control panel frame assembly, which comes with a new keypad. It's part # 383EW5A231S and it runs $42.73 plus shipping form the Sears parts site.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Plus see this diagram at the Sears site.

Then you would disconnect the keypad strip from the circuit board as shown in the photo below.

After that, you take your circuit board out of the old frame (being careful not to drop or bump it) and put it in the new frame and put it all back together.

If you want to avoid taking out the board, you can order the complete controller assembly instead (frame with keypad and circuit board installed) part # 4781W1M432A for $87.02 plus shipping.

You can send your KOT-151S control panel assembly to us to install a new membrane keypad. The cost would be $64.95.

Or you can order an entire control panel assembly (plastic frame, stainless trim piece, keypad, and control circuit board) for $88.85, which includes return shipping.

I being an experienced technician all I do is get micro buttons such as used in television set .I carefully apply minimal hot air from a hair dyer to the touch panel in a clean environment then strip the adhesive touch panel to check the wire ring that tress back to the pcb that is just beneath the touch panel. yo have to locate common and the wire responsible for touch, then drill a small hole where the micro button will sit solder to wires on the button then carefully solder them on the board.now make sure the button is on the same level with the surface before you return the adhesive touch panel make sure the button sits well then from beneath apply hot glue please don't use super glue if you don't understand I will send you pictures.

My touch panel on the door does not work. any
When these go out the usually have to be replaced, there are no replaceable parts for them. Usually you have a stuck button and this is from pushing it too hard, or cleaning fluid gets into the pad and the problem is the whole touch pad gets ruined and has to be replaced. Unless your familair with small appliance repair I would have a tech look at this.

I had a similar problem. I suspected dirt or something got into the touch panel (keyboard). The problem went away after several weeks. I have reason to believe it could be related to humidity. Try putting it in a room with a dehumidifier.

On button no longer works
Without your brand and model number, it's hard to give specific guidance, but when a microwave won't start, the first suspect is a bad door switch or door switch mount. See this file.

You mentioned that you clean the touch panel. I hope that a cleaning spray was not sprayed directly on the controls or on the oven. That's a big killer of controls.

Some numbers on the control panel won't react when pressed...I can bang on it and it will work but not just by touching the numbers
mine did the same thing. i bet you have kids. kids are really hard on touch pads. the touch pad itself isnt too horribly expensive. id try a new one of those. teach the kids "gentle touch". cheaper in the long run.

If nothing works, it sounds like you didn't get the cable inserted properly. It should fit into a connector which carries signals to the microwave's control components. These connectors usually pullup, you insert the cable, and push the connector back down.
