FAV6800aww bearing noise LOUD

I have the 6800aww topload also, I think the bearings are failing. Sounds like a freight train in laundry room now during spinning, gets to 12 min mark, then will start up spin for 4-5 seconds, then shut down and repeat until I turn it off, then it leaves water in the tub. I'm willing to do the repairs myself, but am unsure how many pairs of bearings I need for the repair. On amazon there are two different sizes do I need both, does the seal kit have all the seals necessary to replace the bearings and ******/clutch? Is there a possibility that the main tub bearing is also bad, the noise is REALLY loud, and it happens every time the tub is moving, even during wash cycle. if I could find out exactly what parts to order it would make me more inclined to do the repair myself. Your advice is appreciated, thanks.

If I use it everyday it's fine. If it sits a week, it makes a loud squeal during the first one or two agitation cycles. What is likely cause?

Hello. I need the model number to help you accurately. If this is a top loading unit, the problem sounds like the transmission or if it's a certain model I'm thinking of, there is an electric mode shifter that causes this symptom. What happens is this: On some top load models, there is a rubber seal located in the center of the tub, underneath the washer. If this seal should leak, water, with detergent, dribbles straight down into the electric shifter or the transmission, dissolving the high temp, long-lasting grease there. From that point, the clock is ticking until it has metal on metal operation from the bearings. Similar symptoms occur with front-loaders--the rear tub seal leaks, water/detergent gets into the bearings and causes the infamous "jet aircraft taking off or freight train in the laundry room roaring sound". In either case, it will be a MAJOR repair, requiring total disassembly/re-assembly of the washer.

There is loud noise at rear of machine when in the spin cycle llike a bearing dragging or such. But the tub spins easily??

could be the bearing. does it sound like a freight train when the machine is in spin cycle. if your machine is still under warranty or contract, call it in for service. if its not, then you might want to think about purchasing a new machine.

Final spin loud noise out of balance??

sounds like your bearing is shot
is this a fridgedair?
does it sound like a 747 or freight train?
if yes might as well throw it away
I would say your looking at about 5-6 hundred dollars to repair
you will need the basket and outer tub
the reason is your bearing is compressed from the factory in your outer tub and your basket shaft goes through the bearing
and usually gets eaten up by the bearing

Hi, If i turn the drum slowly by hand with no pressure it sounds like rubbing something metallic at one point of turn.Logically i think it's not necessarily the bearings as it makes the nose with NO...

Hi there,

if the bearings are failing you don't need to apply pressure as they will cause noise even on an empy drum (you can still put up with this if it's not too loud and it doesn't cause spillages on your laundry). If the noise you're experiencing isn't continuous but it only happens at some point while turning the drum, there is probably something loose within the outer tub, probably the heater, in this case I'd recommend you had it seen by an engineer.

Loud noise during washing/rinsing cycles

I just replaced the bearings on my Front loader Maytag MAH5500B, as it sounded like a freight train during the spin cycle. The bearing replacement fixed the train problem.

NEW PROBLEM NOW: It's been about a month now since the bearing job and now something is clicking/binding when you spin the back belt wheel. I have taken the belt off and carefully move the wheel and I still get this clicking noise. It sounds as if someone is hitting the plastic drum that the tub is surrounded by. I really doubt it's the bearings this soon, as the sound is not the same! No leaks or metal shavings to speak of or rubbing of the belt wheel.

Seems like it's more noticeable during the wash/rinse cycles then the spin.

Can anyone help.???

Loud spin cycle/water leaking

If your washer is making a "freight train" like noise in the spin mode, ( loud roaring ), this is often the spin bearing built into the bottom area of the transmission that is worn out. This bearing is part of the transmission and means a new transmission is required. The noise is usually a result of water leaking from the center seal and bearing area onto the transmission. This water washes out the bearing and it gets very noisy in the spin cycle!! Do check the easy stuff before condemning, nail/pin caught in one of the inner basket holes, nothing is caught in the drain pump, the inner wash basket is not loose and wobbling around.

I found this on line ... 6/15/09 . Does your Maytag Neptune front loader sound like a runaway freight train when it is in high speed spin cycle? 2. Is your Neptune getting so loud that you cannot be in the same room while it is spinning your clothes? It sounds like your bearings may need some attention if you answered YES to the questions See www.neptunebearing.com ... Frank [email protected]
