Stylus 770 SW Camera - causes Power Surge on USB port

We have a Stylus 770 SW. Today I charged the battery then attempted to transfer the images to my pc following the normal procedure. However as soon as I connected the USB cable to the pc USB port it came up with a message about a power surge on the port. In fact both ports were blown.
This occurred a few months ago as well. To fix it that time I had to call out a technician which, as you can imagine, cost me a good deal of money. I'm pretty sure that time I had also just charged the camera battery. Olympus are refusing to accept responsibility.

Blown USB ports can happen. Most of the time, they still move power...like you can still charge devices through them, but the device won't be recognized. See if a hub will work.

Hi

Sorry to hear about your issue with the Olympus mju 770 SW. There's a couple of things you can check and try, before thinking about a repair or binning the camera and getting a new model.

1. Check the contacts on the battery are clean?

2. Clean the contacts inside the cameras battery compartment are clean?

3. Is the charger actually charging the battery? Try another battery or see if you can test the existing battery with a multi-meter to check there is some power in it.

It is fairly common for chargers to fail, so it's worth checking out but don't go spending money on a new charger unless you know it will fix your problem.

Hope this helps

Cannot transfer 2010 photos to imac

Use a card reader instead of your camera. When the icon appears on the screen, double-click on it and select the ones you want to transfer. Transfer them to a folder you create on your desktop and from there, you can do anything you want with them.

I have the stylus770 camera. It doesn't turn on when connected to the computer to charge it. please help

In order to charge the battery for the camera you need to use the supplied charger that came with the camera. The camera is not going to charge when connected to the USB port of the computer. Camera was not designed to be charged that way.

Selecting the "format" option in the menu will wipe off your images. basically it reformats the memory card. I would get a card reader, if you havent done so already. I worked with a student today & for some reason we couldn't transfer images from his camera directly to computer via usb + we were getting some error messages when trying to do so. So, I ended up taking his memory card out & used a memory card reader to transfer the images to 'puter and it worked fine.
