DVD Rom I have a Toshiba Satellite A15-S129... and I cannot get the DVD ROM working... I can't watch any videos or record music. When I insert a DISK, it would simply not read it. Please help!!!

Confirm the drive is listed in Device Manager, and then reinstall the device to resolve any error states. In Windows, search for and open Device Manager. Double-click DVD/CD-ROM drives to expand the category. If a CD/DVD drive is not listed in DVD/CD-ROM drives, go to CD/DVD Drive Is Not Detected.

If you still won't fix the porblem, go replace the DVD drive with a new one and you can check on this article for some guidelines:

The newer dvd's often won't play on older machines. The easiest solution is to download and install the VLC Media Player. The VLC Media Player is an open source free player and can be downloaded here.

Disk drive does not work. Possibly need a driver. What kind of removable drive? Rewriteable DVD written on face. Toshiba Satellite A15 series bought quite a few years back. Windows XP home.

I would go into the BIOS and make sure that the correct drive and drive type is there. Up on the boot sequence, hit F2 and go into the BIOS.

Also, go to the toshiba website download the drivers you need. I do it all the time.

Do you have sound at all, or just not when you play a CD or video DVD?
Fist thing to check is if your audio drivers are installed and working properly.
If necessary, find and install the right sound driver for the computer.
There are some more things to try to fix sound in Windows, hope that helps.

I'm need to replace the hard drive without having a system disk.

Google "TOSHIBA RECOVERY AND APPLICATIONS/DRIVERS SATELLITE A100/A105 SERIES" to find the cd delivered with a TOSHIBA. the fourth entry shows what appears to be the real thing. On their webpage EDIT>FIND "A15" to locate the CD.

There may be others in the 355 Google pages listed.

On the original factory disk gives a TOSHIBA Phone number, 1-800-457-7777, for support. I think they sell the disk for @$40.

It may be compatibility issues with that certain blank dvd media, dvd drive may not have dvd writing capabilities or drive is faulty.
