The power on light doesn't work. The standby light (red) is lighted. When I press open/close or standby on/off on the remote, nothing happens. I don't see a power switch on the dvd player itself. Can you help me?

You are having a loading tray sensor problem. It is a small leaf switch on the under side of the loading tray. It must be having a contact problem. How it works is when you close the tray at the end of the tray's travel this switch closes and shorts sending a signal to the microprocessor to shut down the loading motor, same happens when you press eject. Sounds simple but is little difficult to access for a first timer. One you get to it all you need is some switch cleaning spray ( even WD40 will work wonders ).
Take professional help it will just take 10 minutes and will cost you only labor charges. You can mess up the timing if you get it wrong and the loading tray may not work properly.

I work for Memorex tech support. Our phone number is 800-919-3647.
I
know this isn't what you want to hear, but the problem you've described
can't be fixed with troubleshooting. Your DVD player needs to be repaired.
There is a part that has developed a defect and needs to be replaced. The problem is Memorex doesn't repair their DVD players, they simply replace them when a customer has a warranty claim. If your player is no longer in warranty (the warranty is 90 days from the date of purchase) please call the above number to see if your model qualifies for any out of warranty options. Getting the player repaired locally would cost far more than what you paid for it, and that's if someone could repair it without any replacement parts from Memorex.
