The sound seems to be originating from the mesh area in the back of the oven.
The crackling (which sounded a little like a geiger counter) which I could hear when the oven was NOT running was coming from the speaker (where the beeps come from). I unplugged the oven, found the little speaker on the circuit board, yanked one of the wires off of it, and the crackling was be gone.
If your crackling is when your oven is in the plugged in off state and the noise is coming from the powered control board it needs to be investigated for faulty components by a service competent person. i have identified my noise to be coming from the piezo speaker but just disconnecting it might mean your are missing another fault maybe a filter capacitor. Any other noises when in use should be treated as urgent and most likely are from the HV side of the magnetron do not mess with this if your are not an expert.
I strongly recommend you get it checked for safety sake, the crackling sound could be a short in the system.

I have the same problem with my microwave. Also have had it for just about 2 years. Were you able to find a solution?
