It seems to freeze up within the first hour of use from cold startup. After re-start it works perfectly for a few days if I'm lucky, i.e. with out shutting it off but using sleep mode for overnight. After a few days of this It will usually freeze up and have to re-start it. One computer engineer I spoke to thought it might be a voltage issue with processor, i.e. when it starts up the processor may be defective which would make sense to some degree because when not shut down its freeze up is much less frequent. I'm using Vista Ultimate. I've been having this issue since I bought it 3 years ago. Still under warranty but its been back three times to HP and they have been unable to fix it. Any body got any ideas? Anthony G
Its a good pc and it must perform faster. If its slow then follow these guidelines::
Click Start - Run, type in %temp% and then click OK.
Once that temp folder is open and you can view its contents, select and delete EVERYTHING that's inside it. It's all junk and is a good place for "nasties" to hide.
If you want to speed up pc then use PCFresher.
If your computer freezes,then
the problem is related to the registry. When the Windows registry is
filled with errors it can't stop your system from properly communicating
information.
The
only solution for freezing is to clean the
registry of corrupt files and various errors. Not only will this prevent
computer crashing, it will also speed up your system considerably.
I hope it will help you.

check the RAM. Take it out and reseat. also see if it runs good in safe mode. if so then you need new video drivers.

check inside the case of the computer to make sure that the interface cable between the hard drive and the motherboard are fully connected. Also check to see if the RAM modules are fully inserted into their slots. If not, they try removing them one by one, until the computer starts up faster. If this doesn't fix it, then try a new hard drive, and interface cable.

Sounds like it could be a virus. Or, a heat buildup problem - are all fans inside machine working? Is the fan inside the power supply operating? Was there any work done inside the computer recently?
If the hdw is all ok, go out and buy yourself a copy of Norton Internet Security 2009 - 1 user lic - $49.99 @ Staples. Do *not* buy any earlier vers. of this software! Install, update it, run computer computer scan - probably will find/remove some/many viruses.
If this helps, please take the time to rate my response to you.
Thanks and good luck.

You have to do some maintenance cleaning and check up. Both hardware and software. As this age usually two years. One common failure is the harddrive. You should get some backup procedure. As for software you may do the following. 1. Registry cleaning (Ccleaner is good but be careful also) 2. Application cleaning, uninstalling those program not needed in the system. 3. Log and history cleaning. 4. Defrag is good. 5. And virus scanning it also one of the major cause of system freezes. 6. And unloading some files (back it up then unload) As for hardware. You may do some dusting or reseating. Usually the CPU fans and system fans and its airways.

Its got two 500 gig hard drives in it. One more thing I've noticed, when I disconnect one of the two drives effectively killing the Raid 1 system (I think) the computer seems to not freeze up as often. Don't know if thats relevant, you decide. I'm using the microsoft anti virus software which seems ok. Hope these clues help you computer experts out there. Anthony
