RCA serial 137651043, model P52939, 55 inch tv.

TV goes half black picture and I have to shut it off. It will play for a short while and it only happens when its hot outside

  • Anonymous Apr 25, 2012

All connections were checked. This doesn't happen in the winter time at all. Only when it seems to get hot outside. Is there something burned out that I can replace on this unit? Or is it just best to now replace the old tv? Its a 2001 model P52939, serial 137651043 RCA 55in projections screen tv.

Half black? top/bottom or left right?

The set is rather old--a old trick to use is to connect a fan to the rear of set with the back off--it may extend the life of the set and give you some more use out of it.

I have seen a lot of these sets and never one with the problem you describe. If only a picture top or bottom is missing it may be vertical or if you are seeing what looks like a full picture with top or bottom black it is a Blanking problem--may not be easy to find...........

SOURCE: 52 INCH RCA REAR PROJECTION SHUTS OFF

Your TV is overheating.. easiest remedy is to point a fan at the back of the TV or... clean the inside of the TV, Im sure its full of dust and stuff... this prevents air circulation inside the TV thus creating more heat...

I have a RCA L32HD31YX12 TV. The TV works fine for a half hour and then the screen flickers and goes black. The sound continues. If I turn the set off for a half hour, it works again for another half

You have answered your own question, someone needs to open it and find a loose plug or broken solder connection--if it reacts to being tapped on that is the issue- a physical problem inside.

I own a 52 inch rca projection tv and last week

Most likely the Horizontal output transistor has shorted. When it shorts it causes the power supply to chirp. This is a common problem with this series of TV. Have a shop check it out. It should not be real expensive.

Green Screen, No Sound, Shuts off after 10 seconds

Almost certainly the green picture tube is shorted. This is a very expensive repair; probably not worth doing.

Tv does not turn on.

There is probably a short or a near short loading the power supply circuit, a leaky capacitor, shorting diode, transistor,IC,LOPT etc. Have the set checked by a technician near you.

It is still worth repairing!

Rca 52 inch keeps shutting off and picture is curved

The curved picture indicates failing parts in the pin amp section and probably some faulty parts in the scan amplifier sections. The set is being turned off by the uPC because there is a fault indicated, and it is going in to protect mode.

The set will have to be properly serviced.
