I have a di-524 dlink router hooked up to a cable modem. My wife's laptop connects fine to it via wireless, wireless print server connects fine, iphone connects fine, HOWEVER my dell laptop will connect and show that an IP address has been assigned and the wireless network connect looks fine. The problem though is it can not connect to the internet or ping any other device on the network. Not even able to reach the router address at 192.168.0.1. Dell Laptop wireless connection works fine at any other location. On rare occasion after I reboot router and computer, I can get internet connection for a few minutes, but then is lost even though all indications seem to show I still have a strong connection to the wireless router. If I plug directly into router with the Dell I can get internet connection.

Hi.
You need to cascade the Dlink wireless router to your RV042.
Suppose your RV042 has a default IP Address of 192.168.1.1, and the DLINK IP uses 192.168.0.1. Your Physical connection is from the regular port of the RV042 going to the WAN/Internet Port of the DLink wireless router.
Once you do that, your Dlink router should automatically obtain an IP from the main router. If it did, configure your wireless settings and you should be able to connect via wireless.
This is just one way to cascade your router to another router.

ensure that the electrical plug is intact, if you saw no led light lit at all on all indicator check the adaptor itself, if you have a tester you can try to test the end connector to see if there is a DC power line that is coming out.
if not either the adaptor is defective nor the reouter itself is burned out

I have a Dell Latitude D505. Spec say it supports 802.11g. The dell use to connect fine. About a month ago I updated to the current firmware for the Dlink router because my Wife's Toshiba running Vista would not stay connect more than 1 or 2 days without rebooting the router. Since running the firmware update my wife's computer has not lost connection. Also all other devices stated above seem to work better with router after update. I do have WEP enabled and Dell has asked and confirmed that correct password was given. Network status on Dell shows to be connected. Status is "associated". Strength is "excellent". IP address is 192.168.0.1xx. The Speed tends to report 1Mbps when this occurs, typically it will report 18 to 36Mbps for the few minutes it does work.
The Dell wireless works fine at office, hotels, airports, etc.
Thanks.
Thanks for the suggestion Teis, but it seems odd that the dell does not work with the Dlink router at home, but works fine everywhere else. Also that the dlink router at home works fine with my wife's computer and other devices in the house.
I've tried different channel settings. forced it to only connect at "g". updated driver on the dell. updated firmware in the Dlink. At best, I can maintain a connection for about 2-5 minutes after I delete the wireless connection and re-establish connection after typing in WEP value again.
