You can use Canon EF lenses. Be careful not to use EF-S lenses, as they cast a smaller image circle for cropped-sensor cameras, not big enough for full-frame cameras. There are other third-party manufacturers that make lenses with Canon EF mounts, such as Sigma and Tamron. Each manufacturer has their own designation for cropped-sensor lenses, so you'll have to check the specifications for each of them.

My Canon 5D Mark II images appear almost black. It doesn't matter which setting it is on. How to fix the problem? I have used the camera for several years & this is a new problem. Any suggestions?

If this happens with different lenses then I think you've got a repair job on your hand. If it only happens with one particular lens then it may be the lens.

I got new Sigma 18-200 DC II lens, with Canon EOS 5D Mark II it has black lens frame is visible through viewfinder or on the photo. Does it mean this lens is not compatible with 5DmrkII?

The EOS 50d Mark II is what's known as a "full-frame" camera. Its image sensor is the same size as a frame of 35mm film. The Sigma DC lens is intended for cameras with smaller sensors. The lens is compatible in that it will work with the camera to take pictures, but the pictures are cropped due to the smaller imaging area of the lens.

In order to use the full image sensor area you need to use full-frame lenses. In the case of Sigma, this means lenses without the DC designation.

My 5d mark 11 camera screen appears error20 and it wont remove

Hi

Error code 20 on a Canon EOS 5D Mark II indicates there is a hardware problem with either the mirror or the shutter. The only solution is to have it repaired - or if the camera is reasonably new take it back to your supplier and get your money back.

Hope this helps

Conveting SLR lenses to Canon Digital

Canon makes several digital bodies which are "compatible" with those lenses. There are some obvious problems: 1. autofocus may be an issue; 2. the light meter may have to be programmed manually; 3. some of the digital features from the body side will not work if the lens cannot do what is asked of the computer. That all aside please consider the conversion factor as well. Digital sensors are not all the same format as 35mm sensors. So some bodies will be out and other you may have to compensate (ex. 1:1.3; 1:1.6). What this really means is that for instance on a 40d body, the 500mm lens will really be 800mm (500 x 1.6 = 800). Go to the www.canonusa.com website and look at the specification for the lens mount. If there is none there (as in the 1ds MKIII and 5d) there is no conversion factor as the sensor is full frame. Otherwise the 1.6 is the convertion factor. I would also stay away from the rebels as they are really built for the newer line of digital only lenses from Canon and will not be truly compatible with your lenses. Not that they won't take great pictures they just are designed differently. My recommendation is the 5d for many reasons: construction, full frame sensor and balance between features and price. Good luck.
