Just did a clean install of windows 7 on asus p5k se and i have no audio. i have installed all the drivers but i have no sound.
Click start right click on computer select properties then device manager scroll to sound and video game controllers if you see a yellow question/exclamation mark or a red X the driver will need to
click start control panel hardware and sound manage audio devices right click on your speaker select configure speakers
right click on the speaker icon in the bottom taskbar you will see an array of options select playback devices make sure it has a green tick and the correct speakers are selected
be updated if you computer came with a motherboard disk the drivers could be on it although once speakers are connected widows 7 should automatically update the drivers
click start control panel hardware and sound manage audio devices playback you might have to set a default go for via high definition audio then right click on speaker
you might have to configure them then select properties you will see tabs general level in this tab make sure your settings are loud enough also enhancements and advanced from the drop down
list in the advanced tab select dvd quality or another then apply
hope this helps you W7
right click on the speaker icon in the bottom toolbar volume control options see which speakers are selected you can tick boxes of speakers you need to be working
right click again select playback devices see what speakers have a green tick also the communications you have options mute all sounds to reduce sound by 50% 80% or do nothing
Thanks for your help, Brian. I did everything you suggested but I had no luck. The speakers are selected and have a green tick on them. When I press test you can see the green meters working. The sounds are not muted.
The only time I get audio is through the black connector, whish is digital audio but it is very low. When I plug the speakers in the light green connector there is no audio. The back panel in the realtek HD audio manager remains greyed out.
click start right click on computer select properties device manager scroll to sound video and game controllers expand right click on high definition audio devices up date driver software

You're motherboard has the following audio chipset:
SoundMax ADI AD1986A. There is no specific Windwos 7 audio driver for your motherboard yet, but any Windows 7 compatible driver for the AD1986 will do.
I found a Vista driver on the Asus site which should be compatible, although I didn't check it myself (since I don't use Win7 yet). The download link is on this page: http://support.asus.com/download/download_item.aspx?product=1&model=P5VDC-X&SLanguage=en-us&Type=all
Yeah, the page loads very slow, but whenever it's there, download & try the "ADI AD1986A Audio Driver v6.10.01.6070" driver.

This worked for me. You need the sound drivers for the "Intel C-Media High Definition
Audio CMi9880".
I went to this sight www.softwarepatch.pl/plikd.php
Its in a different language but click on the box.
i downloaded the audio file called UDAX008(Logo56.62).zip.
Click on the box, and downloaded the zip file.
Unzipped it.
Then change the compatibility mode of the Setup.exe file to Winxp Sp3 by going to the properties of the Setup.exe file and click on the Compatibility tab. Check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for". And change it to Windows XP Service pack 3.
The drivers are actually meant for windows xp but they are working fine for me and im very happy now. I was worried like you. I hope it works for you.

Go to the following DriverEasy website, download and install. Follow the instructions and it should allow you to download and install the correct drivers for your Motherboard. Much easier than trying to find the drivers on the ASUS website.

update to my problem: a friend suggested I click on the folder on the top right in the realtek hd audio manager. I ticked "disable front panel jack detection" and now I have audio but very low. It seems to be playing audio from the front panel.
The analog audio(back panel) is greyed out in the realtek hd audio manager. The audio can't be heard if the speakers are in the light green socket in the back. The speakers only play when they are in the black socket(digital audio) but very, very low.
The front panel in the realtek hd audio manager has both the headphones and the mic lighted up. What are the settings for realtek hd audio manager and how can I change them if the back panel is greyed out?
