TV has been working fine all along, only 3 years old this November. Quit working this past Monday. TV will not turn on either by power button or remote. I have tried unplugging the set and leaving it this way for a few days. I've tried testing a couple of times plugging the set in. Each time I plug the set in, after a few seconds it begins to make a hissing sound. No picture or sound of course. Hissing sound does not go away, wont turn off either by power button or remote. Have left set unplugged.

That is not a good sign, the problem is in the high voltage, especially if it was a funny smell it would indicate the high voltage transformer "flyback transformer" is toast along with other parts. The set is 4 years old, and new tv's are designed to break down anywhere from 3 to 5 years, probably more cost effective to buy new.
you may not be able to go farther back than november, but if you have a virus, restore wont fix it. if its not a virus, it could also be the power supply unit.
How long is your TV on before it turns off? Check the fans and make sure they are all working. The TV may be shutting off due to overheating if a fan quit working.
If you think the lamp is still good maybe try replacing the lamp ballast.
Okay. My appliance is around four years old. The first time the water quit working was about a year ago (ice cubes / dispenser was fine). I just let it go and didn't worry about it. One day months later, I found it functional again. That lasted about a month or two, then it recently quit again. Tonight, I located the water supply line coupling under the unit on the left side under the freezer door, about five inches from the hinge. I separated the coupling (push lock type) and pressed the water dispenser lever. After a few seconds, the water flowed out just fine. I re-attached the coupling, turned the freezer coldness selector to 0 (off) opened the freezer door and fetched my wife's blow dryer. I ran the dryer along the inside of the freezer door near the black door seal frrom the hinge up to the water/ice dispencer compartment. I also ran it all along the back of the dispenseer compartment to the handle side of the door as I am unsure of where the water line runs. After about ten minutes of this, I attempted to dispense water with no luck. I continued with the blow dryer until the plastic and even the door seal were very warm to the touch. I closed the door and attempted to dispense water once again, and this time it worked. I turned the coldness selector back on. This time I set the freezer to 3 and the fridge to 7. I ran several cups of water through the dispenser since it's been sitting in the line for a while before drinking any. As for the "reservoir," I don't where or if one exists, but heating up the inside of the door from hinge to dispenser worked perfectly. Hope this helps someone!
Check the vertcle yoke pins for solder cracks. Check verticle output circuitry resistors and transistors. And also check for Coolant leaks from the CRTs this happens alot. Check capacitors for any signs of sweeling or heat as well.
