Boot problem Hi Expert, I have an IBM ThinkPad T40 2379 Laptop, Windows XP, Professional. After turning the computer on, it doesn't boot. Pressing the blue IBM key on the keyboard or the F2 key it doesn't help either. The screen remains dark, the drives don't work. Only the fan makes noise. After trying several times, sometimes I got lucky. I can work normally. But after a while the screen becomes frozen, nothing works the clock stand still. Did the HD almost crashed? Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it. Franz .

Check it on bios whether the hard drive is detecting or not, if detecting then recover OS using recovery Cd

How do i install operating system with external dvd

Hi
How to Install Windows XP on a Thinkpad T20

The Thinkpad T20 is a laptop computer from IBM designed for business use. This computer comes with the Windows XP operating system and--if necessary--can be reloaded with the operating system. All you need to perform this operation is the installation disc for Windows XP and a valid product key. This product key can be found on the bottom of the computer or with the documents included with the machine (if Windows XP was pre-installed on the computer).

Windows XP CDProduct key
1 Turn on your T20 laptop computer and press the blue "ThinkVantage" button.

2 Scroll through the options and select the option to boot from your T20's CD/DVD drive.
3 Press the "Enter" key at the welcome window and press the "F8" key once you have read (and agreed to) the license terms for installing the software.
4 Select the drive on which you want to install Windows XP and press the "C" button, followed by the "Enter" button.
5 Press the "Enter" button again to start the installation process. When prompted, enter the product key for Windows XP. Once the setup finishes, you can use the computer.

Had to reformat my windows xp professional on my thinkpad 40 2722. Works beautifully- a clean restart but lost my drivers and cannot get to internet. How do I get the needed drivers back?

Hi there,

If your laptop comes with a driver CD, you can use that to install the needed drivers. If not, you might need to use another computer and go to IBM Thinkpad support website and download the drivers from there. Save it on a USB thumb drive and use that to install the drivers to your Thinkpad.

Go here for the IBM Support Website

Hope this helps.

Laptop turns on, goes to first screen which reads IBM TRHINKPAD. THEN FLASHES OFF TO NEXT SCREEN WHICH READS THE WINDOWS XP LOGO then it goes black and doesnt come back on

Your installation of Windows is most probably corrupted. Try pressing and holding the F8 button on your keyboard when the 'IBM THINKPAD" screen disappears. That should bring you to a Windows menu where you can select various modes. Select Safe Mode and press enter. If it boots, then you know that something's wrong with Windows and not the notebook itself. What have you installed prior to this problem? Maybe you should try uninstalling it while in safe mode, and then try starting up Windows normally again.

If your windows doesn't start anyway, you should get some live OS (OS that can boot from CD) like Ubuntu or Puppy Linux, so you can save the data from C: partition (burn it or copy it elsewhere) and then reinstall your copy of Windows XP.

I want setup windows xp my ibm thinkpad t23 i can pot cd & restart press f12 but not start setup plz halp me haw can i setup windows xp my ibm thinkpad t23

If your trying to reinstall a new copy of Windows in your computer then first thing you need to do is change the Boot sequence of your computer so it will load the Windows CD you inserted then it will run the set up.

To change Boot sequence:
1. Go to BIOS - Press F1 or F2 (depends on model of your computer) immediately after you turn you computer on
2. Go to Boot Menu on the top of the window
3. Change your Boot priority - make sure your dvd drive is your first or primary boot.
4. Press F10 to save and exit.

Make sure you have your Windows CD inserted before pressing F10 coz your computer will restart and will loadautomatically load and run the Windows Setup

Note: If a message "Press any key to boot from CD" appear on a black screen press any key to start the set up

Your Feedback is greatly appreacited.

Hope this information will be helpful. Thank you for using FIXYA.

ThinkPad A21m won't boot into Windows

Did the laptop you got come at least with a windows XP cd? If so boot the laptop off of that and try to install Windows XP and see if it goes thru. Just make sure during the installation you tell it to delete the partitions first and then let it go thru that way you know for sure the hard drive is clean at that point.

Hi, I have an IBM R51 Type 2887 Thinkpad that came with Windows XP Home edition. I formatted the laptop and put the Windows XP Professional in it. However, it could not install few key drivers (Eg. CD ROM,...

You need to access a computer that is connected to the Internet, (try going to a friend or work mate or nternet cafe etc.)

Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEB site - support/download page and download the latest Windows XP audio driver for your model laptop,
www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-39956.html

Copy the downloaded files and install them on your computer.

Ibm restore to factory setting

You have not explained what is wrong with your computer.
Is the laptop working, does it boot up into Windows?
What are you trying to restore?
Are you trying to get into a previous Restore Point?
The Access button takes you into the BIOS, you can change the BIOS settings back to the Default settings (ie the factory default settings).
It is difficult to offer a solution without knowing the exact nature of the problem.
