Most Rheem units have a manual high pressure safety switch accessible from outside the unit. It has a little red rubber boot over the button thats about the size of a pencil eraser. Its located near the bottom where the refrigeration lines are connect to the unit. Make sure the wire is connected to the y terminal at the thermostat. Wish I knew your expertise the next step would be to jumper the r terminal with the y terminal at the thermostat and if the unit comes on you know the thermostat has failed hope this helps and good luck.

AIR HANDLERS DO NOT ENERGIZE REVERSING VALVE , THE THERMOSTAT DOES THE JOB THROUGH THE O  OR B TERM TO THE OUTSIDE UNIT. IF YOU HOOK UP TO O TERM AND HEAT COMES ON WHEN YOU SET AC ON THEN SWITCH TO B TERM ON STAT. YOU SHOULD HAVE O TERM ON CONDENSER OUTSIDE AND YOU USE ORANGE WIRE IF YOU HAVE ONE. IF NOT USE UNUSED WIRE IN 6 WIRE STAT HARNESS.

Sounds like it isn't wired correctly. Check wiring diagram that came with thermostat. Also check to be sure thermostat is for both heating and cooling.

The only thing different about a Rheem unit is on the heat pump they use B instead of O. RYGWC all the same.Rus

A lug is defined as a screw terminal made to accept one or more wires. Lugs as such are found in Circuit Breaker boxes (and on the circuit breakers themselves) Electrical junction boxes, Contactor relays such as found in Central Air units, those all being fairly large. There are also small lugs as would be associated with small wires such as thermostat wiring. Terminal diagrams for user-made connections are always provided with the unit being connected be it thermostat or HVAC unit. The thermostat comes with written documentation including diagrams, HVAC units typically have a diagram glued to the inside of the access panel.

Electricity can be your friend but can also kill you. Disconnect the power before altering or making any connections. If you don't know what you are doing, don't become a statistic, get help.

Turn off the power to your condensing unit.
Open the service control panel.
Look at the contactor and take one of the low voltage wires off of it.
If the contactor stays closed, replace the contactor. Even if you clean the contacts it will stick again.
If the contactor opens replace the wire and check the thermostat to see if it is operating correctly.

we are trying to install a goodman heat pump with a rheem air handler, the orange wire is hook up and the unit is still staying in the heat mood. does anyone have a wiring diagram for the air handler, their is some white wires in the air handler one with a purple strip and one with a black strip we need help
