Whirlpool Duet dryer runs way too hot, even during air only cycle.

The dryer runs too hot and does not cool down. Started with the machine stopped turning and the clothing inside was too hot and burned a finger on cotton fabric. replaced the thermal fuse and it ran but would still give off too much heats. It wont cool down or heats during the air only mode. replaced the thermistor and stll it heats up. Noticed there are 2 coils and only one gets orange color, the other does not heat up. What could the issue be?

SOURCE: no heat from dryer

Symptom: Electric Dryer turns on, drum spins, but you have no heat.

Any of the following components are more than likely suspect as being bad:

Heating Element
Thermal Cut-Out
Hi-Limit Thermostat

Double check the input power for your dryer FIRST. You should have 220VAC at the receptacle and terminal block.
The dryer will STILL tumble and the timer will still function with a portion of the input power missing as these circuits only require 110VAC.
The heating circuits, however, require 220VAC to function. If one leg of the receptacle voltage is missing the dryer may exhibit "No Heat" like symptoms.
This could also be an indication of a burned or failed power cord.

Continuity checks performed with the dryer UNPLUGGED should indicate a short between the prong end of the cord and the respective lugs at the terminal block.

All these components COMBINED, should cost less than $100. If you fix it yourself, you will avoid the additional cost for labor.

If the dryer isn't blowing ANY air at all, but the drum still turns, you may have a bad blower fan assembly inside the dryer.
Or, the blower fan assembly may be clogged.

If your dryer performance has been failing (i.e., clothes taking longer to dry), it may be for a reason.
You need to ask yourself when the last time you cleaned the dryer ventilation.
If you can't remember, or if it has never been done, this can contribute to the dryer failing.
All dryers need proper air flow in order to dry properly. If the ducting becomes clogged, the heating circuits will actually overheat and eventually fail.
This usually results in the Thermal Cut-Out (TCO) blowing or the Heating Element failing or BOTH.
When these components fail, they must be replaced. Remove the dryer hose from the back of the dryer and inspect it thoroughly from where it leaves the dryer to where it exits your home.
It should be clear with no kinks or clogs.
If your vent line runs under a crawl space make sure it is suspended above the ground and has no sags where lint could collect.

RULE OF THUMB: The SHORTER and STRAIGHTER the vent duct, the BETTER.

After you inspect the vent ducting, turn the dryer on and make sure you have forceful air flow coming form the dryer.
This will prove that your blower fan is working properly or not.

Since you stated that your dryer is not currently heating, the air will be cold, but you should still have some force behind it.
If the air flow is weak, you need to clean the duct work INSIDE the dryer. It is important to keep a dryer checked routinely.
I recommend once per season (that's 4 times per year). Dryers are the cause of many house fires.
These fires are due to lint accumulations inside the unit catching on fire. A little preventive maintenance can prevent significant problems in the future.

Getting to the heating circuit to determine if the components are good or bad is the next step.
If your dryer has the lint screen on the top of the unit, you will need to remove the back panel of the dryer to expose the heating circuits.
If the dryer has the lint screen in the door, you will need to remove the lower kick panel under the door by using a putty knife to release the retaining clips.
They will be located along the seam in the front about 2 inches in from each side.

If this is a Kenmore Elite or Whirlpool Duet, the lower lick panel comes off by removing the screws under the bottom edge of the panel.

(HINT: placing a block of wood under the front feet of the dryer can make access much easier).

If your dryer has no lower kick panel, you have to remove the entire front panel on these models.
This is accomplished by lifting the dryer top and removing the screws that hold the front panel in place.

NOTE: The heating circuit should be troubleshot with the dryer UNPLUGGED. Dangerous voltages are still present with the dryer turned off. Resistance readings are as follows:

Heating Element (located inside heater box) - remove the two leads from the ceramic terminals on the heating element and take a reading across the terminal points. It should read 9 - 13 ohms.

Thermal Cut-Out (TCO) (mounted to the heater box.) - unplug wires and take reading across connector tabs. Reading should be 0 ohms.

Hi-Limit Thermostat (mounted to the heater box, closest to the heating element leads) - unplug wires and take reading across connector tabs. Reading should be 0 ohms.

If any of the above readings are abnormal, replace the component.

NOTE: If the TCO or Hi-Limit Thermostat is defective it is highly recommended by most manufacturers to replace BOTH components at the same time.
They are often sold as a set. Without doing so, these components can cause potentially fail again.

SOURCE: Whirlpool Duet Dryer is scorching clothes

there is a sensor in the exhaust line in the dryer, near the motor. this tells the heating element to shut off when it gets to a certain temp, either during reg cycle or if the exhaust gets clogged, it is meant as a safety measure, but it sounds like yours is bad so the heating element never shuts off. it is not an expensive part and easy to replace

Hi, i have a whirlpool duet sport wfw8400tw03. When i run to normal cycle, it stop no error code no light. The washing machine just shut down. I can run it on delicate or sanitary. Is a balance trouble

if u can run it on delicate or fluff cycle with cool air more than likely its ur cycling thermostat or the hi limit thermostat going defective test it with a meter for ohms..
1. On gas and electric dryers that have an "Auto Dry" cycle, the cycling thermostat is often used to advance the timer as well regulate the drum temperature. Essentially, thermostat will alternately turn on the heat source or the timer motor when the temperature has been satisfied. To check this thermostat, you will have to check for power to the timer motor with a multi-meter, during a cycle. This is a live voltage test and caution should be used.

2. Some dryers will use a cool down thermostat to tumble the clothes without heat, at the end of the dry cycle. Power is routed through this thermostat to the drive motor to keep it running until the drum temperature has dropped to a specific temperature. If this thermostat fails it can cause the drum to turn indefinitely or until the door is opened. You can check the thermostat for continuity with a multi-meter. This test should only be made with the power removed from the dryer.

Lastly check the moister sensor for OHMS according to ur schematic as it must show a certain amount of ohms as per ur unit. When unit has been on short while

DRYER OVERHEATING:

Heating Element
A defective heating element can make a dryer too hot or not heat at all. . If the element partially shorts out, it can produce heat all the time, regardless of whether the dryer is calling for heat. Remove the heating element to inspect it. The coils should not be touching each other or anything else.

Other Causes and Conditions
Air Flow Problem
Dryers need good ventilation to work properly. If the vent is clogged it can make the dryer too hot. Clean all of the vent tubing thoroughly.

Cycling Thermostat
Although not common, a defective cycling thermostat can make the dryer too hot. The cycling thermostat is supposed to turn on and off the heat to maintain the proper temperature. If the thermostat is defective it may keep the heat on too long. The thermostat is not adjustable or repairable, it must be replaced.

HI LIMIT THERMOSTAT DEFECTIVE? SHOULD SHOW OHMS AT ROOM TEMPERATURE

Felt Seal
Most dryers have a felt seal at the front and rear of the drum to keep the heat inside the drum. If the felt seal is worn away or missing, the dryer may keep heating and make the dryer too hot. This is not common.

Blower Wheel
A defective blower wheel will not spin properly and will not vent the hot air, making the dryer too hot. Check to see if there is adequate airflow out of the dryer.

My Whirlpool duet sport dryer got hot and shut off after running 20 minutes.

Sounds like you may have a bad heating element that has grounded. You should have this looked at to make sure if you aren ot handy to open the dryer up and inspect the heating element your self. make sure the element wire has not broken and fused itself to metal inside the dryer heater housing.

Electric Whirlpool dryer won't cool down during drying cycle and even gets hot during air fluff cycle. Replaced thermal fuse and is still the same.

There are two thermostats on my whirlpool model number 857554115010.
Both should be replaced at the same time.
I found a good video on

Shaking washing machine

If the shaking is during the spin cycle and you are using the High setting change it to Medium. This may fix the problem and the clothes will probably come out even dryer since the drum is not banging around.

Laundry stinks

I find that the dryer does not dry the clothes enough. The washer can take a lot of laundry at one time but the dryer is not able to handle the load. The stink usually comes from a bit of moisture left in the the clothes, especially the towels. Break down your dryer loads or dry them on a timed cycle for a longer time.

Dryer not going to cool down cycle, thermal fuse failed 2x

Most problems like this arise from air flow problems. You need to break down the dryer and clean out the lint. Including removal of the filter housing.making sure your outside vent is clear as well.If that fuse keeps blowing you especially need to remove and rinse out that filter housing.

Whirlpool dryer

If your dryer stops during its cycle, wait ten minutes and start dryer again. If dryer starts, then the motor was overheating.

Solution, Check for lint blockage around the motor and for possible overloading. If dryer repeatedly stops during its cycle, especially during consecutive loads, replace motor.

Good luck
