My a.o. smith waterheater pilot light goes out every fews days when the weather is cold
There are several things that can cause this, but the most likely cause is a dirty pilot light orifice, causing the pilot light to have a smaller weaker flame than it was designed for. This produces a weak flame that is easily susceptable to drafts, and a lower holding temperature on your safety capillary tube that controls the gas shutoff safety valve.
The orifice can be removed and cleaned on some models, removed and replaced on others. I would suggest a qualified serviceman be called, because gas service is usually beyond a typical handyman's area of expertise, and safety is a very important issue here.

Smith water heater goes out after only heating one tank; I have to manually light with the igniter, what is happening?
