Broken Microwaive Door

Help! the door wont open on my kitchen aid counter top microwaive model kcms5145jss. After working with the door and using a liitle force, I got it open. The door button that you normally depress to open the door has no resistance and it looks like a part has come loose inside the hole that the bottom door latch fits into. Is there a way to get at this problem and a way to fix the door opening button ? Many Thanks!

I'm assuming your correct model number is KCMS145JSS? You have a broken "release lever", part number AP3033332. It's reference number 7 on the exploded view diagram found here: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/sect/4/g/4/4g4rya32jj.gif You can order it by part number from Appliance Parts Pros here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383 If needed, you can download the owner's manual and installation guide here: http://www.kitchenaid.com/custserv/literature_search_results.jsp?searchTerm=kcms145jss If you need further help, please follow up. I appreciate your rating of this answer.

How to repair kitchen aid door springs

proceed according and fix it. God bless you

  1. Open leverCheck your microwave lever to determine if it is damaged. If it is broken, simply replace the lever to get your microwave door fully functional again.
  2. Door springResponsible for keeping downward pressure on the door hook, the microwave door spring can begin to malfunction. If this part is broken and prevents you from opening your microwave door, replacement is necessary.
  3. Door latchOne reason your microwave door may not open properly is a broken door latch. Located inside the microwave, the door latch manipulates the door hook to keep the door closed for safety and top performance. If broken, the door could become stuck in the locked position.
  4. Door hookIf your microwave door will not release properly, the door hook could be damaged. Located inside the door, the door hook is made of plastic and prone to breakage with extended use or age. As this part is unable to be repaired, the only option is to replace it.
  5. Button or button springIf the microwave door will not open, it could be an internal failure of the button or button spring. If it is determined that either of these parts is the source, both are replaceable and it is recommended that they be installed at the same time.
  6. Handle actuatorIf the microwave door will not open the plastic handle actuator could be broken. Connected between the door button and the door latch assembly, this plastic part could become damaged and brittle over time, which makes breaking inevitable. If this occurs, replace the handle actuator to get your microwave fully functional again.

You have a failed bottom door switch, or that switch's mount is broken or misaligned.

The door press opener button of my kitchenaid

What usually breaks is the door open lever, but it may also be that the rear side of the door open button has worn down too far to work.

On a counter top model, the outer cover will need to be removed to diagnose and repair this. On an over-the-range model, usually only the control panel needs to be removed.

Once it is apart, you'll be able to see how the door open button would press against the door open lever, which would then lift up against the door latch heads (hook-like projections on the door) and the door should open.

You can find links to helpful exploded view diagrams and part ordering help here.

I opened the door on my sharp microwave and now it wont latch. it sounded like something snapped off where the door latches to the microwave, not the door itself . Even if the door is held shut the light...

It may be the latch head spring or the door open lever or button.

DOOR SPRING LATCH HEAD HOOK

If you gently push up on the door latch heads (hook-like devices sticking out of the door) there should be spring tension. If they just flop right up, the spring is off inside.

Normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.

If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.

The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.

you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see how it goes together.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.

DOOR OPENING BUTTON LEVER

What usually breaks is the door open lever, but it may also be that the rear side of the door open button has worn down too far to work.

On a counter top model, the outer cover will need to be removed to diagnose and repair this. On an over-the-range model, only the control panel needs to be removed.

Please unplug the oven first.

Once it is apart, you'll be able to see how the door open button would press against the door open lever, which would then lift up against the door latch heads (hook-like projections on the door) and the door should open.

You can usually find exploded views and part numbers for Sharp models by entering your model number at the Sears parts site.

If not, let me know. We have many Sharp manuals and if we have yours, we can link you to it at no charge.

The best place to order Sharp parts is
Encompass (formerly Tritronics).

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

If it's less than one year old, it should be fully covered under warranty. I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer to get it fixed free.

You probably have a bad turntable coupler or support.

Door will not open (no tension on botton)

This is usually a broken door opening lever behind the door open button. Sometimes it is a broken tab on the door opening button. It will require visual inspection to tell. Since this is a counter top model, the outer cover / wrapper will have to be removed to get to the door opening parts. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety and disassembly info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk You can order parts at one of these sites: http://www.pasc.panasonic.com/epartr http://www.vancebaldwin.com/
