Seems like a S/W issue...

My Lumix DMC-FX7 has recently become a doorstop. The lens remains extended/lens cover open when off. When the unit is turned on the lens will retract and cover then extend again. The LCD display works but nothing else functions (ie: buttons, levers etc...) within 45 seconds a message is displayed saying to turn the unit off then on again. Is there a way to "hard boot" this unit to check if it is a S/W issue? Or does this sound like a mechanical problem? Thanks, Damon

Thanks for the info. I actually sent this unit in to the repair depot. They didn't give any real analysis of the problem but it is working now. I guess it will remain a mystery to me.

This is a mechanic problem. The camera can't align the lents and proper focus them due to some sort of servomotors failure. Because of that, it tries to get a proper fix, but as it fails, it thinks that some object got the lents pushed or something like that and it askes you for a "reboot". You can't "hard boot" the camera, even a complete reset woun't help as this error is given by the camera's microcontroller circuitry (some sort of camera processor). The only fix can by given by an autorised service center. Even they may find out that you need the whole lens mechanism changed.

The lens on my panasonic lumix dmc-fx07k camera will not open or extend out. when you turn the camera on it sounds as if it is in the process of opening and coming out, but it does not.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. To start with try to blow compressed air around the lens cover so that if there is any dirt it cleans if off. You can also stick a thin strip of paper between the lens shutter and the outer support ring & move it in a way that it clears the debris that's stuck in there. If still the issue is not resolved then you'll have to replace the lens assembly & lens mechanism to fix this issue. It is recommended to be done by a professional. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Lumix DMC-FX7 No Controls issue

The cheapest thing to do here is just replace the camera, they are not fixed just exchanged by the factory.

Lumix TZ3 lens does not open

It is not clear if you are saying whole camera turns off or just screen turns off.

Notice before the camera went bad the lense does not extend in play mode, while it does in record mode. Many cameras have software that automatically turns camera off if lens cannot/fails to extend for some reason. Try to help it extend in record mode before camera turns off.

It may that your battery has lost its charge, or has leaked? If it won't hold a charge try taking it out wiping it and trying again if that doesn't work you may need a new battery.
