SOURCE: JVC GR DVL9800 - Vista won't recognize

I have the same camera and use vista without a problem. However I use the firewire interface and not the USB which might be the explanation.
By the way, I can't find my manual. The date and time don't stay saved for any length of time between use. Is there a baterry that need to be changed and if so where is it?

Thanks

its true that normally you don't need to download the driver, however when it does pop up, i'd say go here http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=87522 and just download the zip file for the drivers.

I can understand your problem. I have the same problem with Windows 7 software for a video capture card manufactured by Canopus (Grass Valley) After much searching and experimenting I decided that the best solution was to maintain a Windows XP machine for this one purpose. In my case it was a cheap solution because I have a collection of Windows machines that I can use. It enabled me to capture my old family movies on DV tape format and then transfer them to my newer machine for editing. Sorry I don't have a better solution, but sometimes technology progresses faster than is convenient for some of us.
Cheers, Don.

JVC gr-d396u camcorder; need driver installed (tried with xp and windows 7; camcorder too old? 2006-2007 model); computer is recognizing firewire and usb cords, but not the camera; camcorder works fine...

Glad to help YOU!

I think all you need is a SOFTWARE called DriverWhiz.
It can be found HERE.
Click on RUN (or SAVE AS - if you use Firefox) and let it be installed on you machine. By using this DriverWhiz you will be able to:
# find missing drivers for any JVC device
# update the existing drivers
# backup your existing JVC drivers

GOOD LUCK!

Is a driver available for a JVC GR-D40 cam corder that is compatible with windows 7

Not compatible or not working well with windows 7?
(make your program/application run with windows 7)

Maybe, It doesn't work because the driver/application you installed is for other versions of operating system. I am also using windows 7 like you so don't you worry, You can still use your old installer/driver from other versions of operating systems. Just remember that before installing any program in a windows 7 Operating System Computer, Use "troubleshoot compatibility". Right Click the Icon of your program installer/application first, then choose "troubleshoot compatibility". This will allow you to choose on what type operating system your program will run. Just reply back if it still doesn't work.:D rate and vote for me:))
