Acer battery icon flickering

New battery, new Ac adapter, but green battery icon flickers on screen as if it's trying to charge a fully charged battery. Screen goes from light to dark. Condition can be improved by switching to different power mode but then reoccurs. Any suggestions? Driver problem? Bios? Battery bad? Any guesses?

SOURCE: Blank screen on my laptop, unit is turned on

Could be a couple of things. First off, I would try shutting the laptop off entirely, removing the AC Adapter and battery from the bottom of the unit and pressing the power button down for about 20 seconds with all devices removed, and plugging everything back in and turning it on again. Should this not work, again remove power and battery, and if you're familiar with the process, removing the RAM as well, then plugging the power back in and try turning it on, see if you can get the computer to emit a POST error beep. If you do get the beep, then it could very well be a faulty stick of RAM, which is easy enough to replace. If you don't get the beep, but the unit still powers on, then there' smore than likely a problem with the motherboard in the laptop. If that's the case, then check with either Acer Technical Support via phone or web, or with the place where you bought the computer and see if you're still within some kind of warranty, and if you are, you can get it serviced through them. If not, motherboard repairs can be very costly (parts and labour will probably run about $400-600USD). RAM modules though like I mentioned before are quite inexpensive and simple enough to replace.

SOURCE: Can't get my Acer 4420 to start

Any one component could be stopping this to boot. I would seriously contemplate pointing this at the bin. A replacement motherboard would be the cost of a new laptop, also if you do not have manufaturers training or a technical manual you may literally destroy the laptop taking it apart, and or if you do change the motherboard, without specific antistatic equipment you may zap that too. It might not be the motherboard at fault either............

Hello,

Thsi problem arise when you have a bad BIOS version. Normally, you should update the BIOS with the latest version. go to www.acersupport.com and download a latest BIOS together with the flash tool. you should be able to charge the battery normally.

Could be a bad battery and/or charger/AC Adaptor/DC Connector. Try to isolate the problem by removing the battery and then plugging the laptop charger in and starting the pc up. It should boot on the AC adapter alone. If it won't boot on the AC adaptor or it flickers and flashes while on the AC adaptor, I would first suspect the AC adaptor or the DC connector on the laptop (try wiggling the power plug at the PC to try and check the connector). If it behaves while on the AC adaptor without the battery present, I would suspect the battery. Either way, you may have to replace something.

New Acer Aspire laptop 5560-7402 beeping and flickering

If it's new, return it A.S.A.P. for repair/replace, Unless it's been damaged or theated harshly, their is no reason for it to be giving you trouble in a month. If the AC jack is pulled, yanked, tugged...etc. it could damage the inside connections of the AC jack.

When the laptop is turned on, the screen rolls & flickers. I can press on the sides & it stops.

Hello collensdrea,
Welcome to FixYa.com!
Sorry to hear what's happening to your laptop. I would lke to ask you to follow a few steps to check and see if this is a faulty display or not. Please follow the following steps:
1. Turn the laptop off 2. Unplug the AC adapter (if connected) and remove the battery 3. Press & hold the power button for 40 seconds w/o the battery installed or the AC adapter plugged in 4. Let go of the power button, reconnect the AC adapter and put the battery aside for the meantime 5. Turn the laptop on by pressing the power button and the second you turn the laptop on, tap F2 several times to load the laptop's BIOS.
What is a BIOS? This is a special screen that let's you make changes to your laptop's motherboard. Please do not wander around as it may cause the more problems if you are not sure of what you are doing.
The reason why we went here is to see if we can still recreate the same issue i.e. the screen rolls & flickers.
If it still rolls & flickers, I'm afraid you need to contact Acer to have your computer sent to Depot or serviced.
Regards,

Yellow light flickers 4 times when trying to turn

If you don't get the flickering lights when you try to boot up with the AC adapter hooked up but no battery, it sounds like the problem is most likely a bad power adapter. Your battery is dead, and that's why you get the flickering lights, but the AC adapter is bad so you can't use it to power the laptop or charge the battery.

You can typically get a new adapter for $20 or so, or maybe even cheaper on eBay.

My inspiron 6000's power flickers on and off intermittently, switching between A/C & battery power. I've replaced the power cord. Any other ideas?

Try removing batt and use ac adapter alone. Check if laptop works fine also check if LED flickers still.

Try removing ac adapter and use battery alone and check if batt flickers as well.

If flickering only happens when both are connected or vice versa try this first. Update the BIOS for your laptop. Download the BIOS update from http;//support.dell.com

Flickering screen - Acer (laptop) 1690 series

You have two problems and they are separate issues.
First your battery is nearly worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and as the battery ages the charge capacity will drop. When the battery is worn out, it may not charge at all or show it is 100% charged but when you remove the AC power the laptop will shut off because the battery is dead. A new battery is required to fix this problem.

Second when you connect the AC adapter into the laptop's power socket, and the screen flickers and the charge LED also flicks, it means the power socket is faulty or the power socket has a dry solder joint connection to the motherboard. If you hold the power plug in a particular position you should notice the charge LED will stay on without flickering as well as the LCD screen.
This fault can be repaired, but it requires the laptop to be dismantled completely to access the power socket. I suggest you get a quote first.

Screen flickers on Acer Aspire A150 Netbook

Hello,

It really sounds like you have a short in the ac adapter. Laptops dim the backlight on the screen when on battery power and go full brightness when on AC. I think your adapter is going on and off. When it is on the screen is on full and when it goes off the screen dims down a bit. You could have a bad adapter, most likely, or a bad charging jack in your laptop. Check the adapter first, just use a multimeter set to voltage. Read lead goes to the center pin and black lead goes to the outside metal contact, you should get a reading of 18 to about 26 volts. Move the wire around near the plug that you are holding and keep checking the readout. I think you will find the voltage dropping as you move the wire.

I hope this helps, If so please rate my solution.
