How long should the heavy wash cycle run? I have been using the regular cycle but decided to use the heavy duty when washing the filters from my range hood. Should it take over 2 hours?

The heavy cycle typically takes a long time because it includes a short soak and prewash. The older hot fill washers were quicker but used more water while the newer cold fill washers are claimed to use a third less water and so need to take longer over the wash.

The heating of the water also adds time to the cycle. Modern detergents work best, the manufacturers claim, with a rising temperature.

Will run thourgh cycles but only a little water will go in

Check fill line for a kink, (remove kick panel on bottom of dish washer)
If no kink then replace fill valve. Unplug dish washer fill valve is where water line is hooked on.

Dish washer runs all cycles but no water entering dish washer

Make sure you check that the water is turned on to the dishwasher.
Check for a kinked or squished fill hose. If all else fails its most likely you need a new fill valve for your dish washer.

Lots of mold around rubber gasket; unable to clean off; odor from mold; water in detergent trays; maybe some water leaking from washer; washer bought in 2008

Use a s.o.s pad to remove mold there will still be staining but it will gey the bulk of.Now to get rid of the smell ( this has been a mixture I have used for about ten yers works every time) put the washer on hot heavy wash start when done filling drain what you want to do is make sure the water is the hottest it can be. now start washer again on hot wash when you see water in bottom of tub stop machine to open door ADD two cups of dish washing power( brand does not matter I tell most people to buy cheap stuff at walmart) start machine let it run till you see powder disolve then stop washer and add 1 cup bleach. let unit go through complete cycle..If your washer has a clean cycle use that instead of the heavy or normal cycle. The most I ever had to do this treatment was 2 cycles and it worked every time.Note all front load washers the door must be left open to pervent odor/bellows should be wiped clean after each use/and a good cleaning at least once a month. anyhow if this helped please vote if you need more help please ask

NOTE the dish soap is the stuff for a dish washer

We have hard water at our home, but the new dishwasher leaves a thick film on the glasses. We use the rinse agent, but it's awful.

You have to buy a cartridge type water softener and attach it to the
inlet water line of your dish washer. In addition to this there must be
a salt compartment in the dish washer.
Refer the user guide /owners manual and locate. Fill it with the special
dish washer salt. ( Do not use kitchen salt used for food).
The dish washer salt may help to certain extent in softening the wash
tub water inside. Check the switch settings for rinse aid and salt
release settings in the machine. Refer manual!

Runs but no water

Is the water cut off to the dishmachine. The first thing any dish washer should do at the beginning of the cycle is heat/fill with water. If you do not hear the water come on when you start the cycle, chances are that you have a bad fill valve, control circuit issue or no water supply to the dish machine.

GE Dishwasher fills with water but does not "spray water" on dish

Here are a few things that might help you out, first is you could have a bad heating element in your dish washer, when it fills with water it has to reach a certain temperature before continuing to the next cycle, next thing is you could have a bad thermostat, or your timer is defective.

Model # dwu7702aae has heat delay light coming on during cycle. Why?

Heater is used to both heat water during clean cycle and dry dishes after wash cycle. Most washers have either a separate switch for Heat or Dry for optional use, or some have the water heat and dish dry options built into cycle set options.

You can save money by turning off the Dish Dry option since it is a very in-efficient way to dry dishes. Instead, open the wishwasher door after washing cycle completes, just enough so fresh air can get into, and humid air can escape, dishwasher.

Water Heat option is only needed for dried food on dishes, and is never needed if dishes are either rised off before putting them in the dishwasher, or rinsed off inside the dishwaser with a Rinse cycle, if they are to stand for a time waiting for a full dishwasher for wash.

Mucky water in bottom of washer

Sounds like the machine is not pumping out the water at the end of the cycle.  There is a solenoid valve located near the pump down below.  It has a pipe which extends to the waste and another which goes to the wash arms.  The pump will either send water to the arms or the waste.  IF this valve is jammed...usually with food waste...it will not pump out.  Often, the valve can be cleaned and reinstalled.
