How do i unlock the "Function / Fn key"

Fn + Esc:4 levels backlit brightness adjustable,suitable for use days & nights
High light - Medium light - Respiration light - Extinguish (High brightness by default when starting up).
7 Multimedia Shortcut Keys: Stop, Fast forward, Rewind, Play/Pause, Volume-, Volume+, Mute
3 levels keyboard speed adjustable:
Fn+F1 : 21 byte per sec(80/S)
Fn+F2 : 30 byte per sec(60/S)
Fn+F3 : 63 byte per sec(40/S)

Fn + F11 Lock/Unlock all keys
Fn + F12 Lock/Unlock Windows Key
FN + W : Switch WASD keys and Arrow keys.

Function Keys can be unlocked by using combination of Function (FN) key and any other key. Generally they are the F keys right on the top from F1 to F12.

Most often the following combinations work:

1) Fn + F6
2) Fn + Num Lock
3) Holding Fn for a while
4) Fn + F8
5) Ctrl + Fn
6) Shift + Fn

Please, all most at all times the function keys from F1 to F12 are marked and indicated about what they do. The marking is pointed by a small icon just under the name of the Function key.

you FN key is locked try pressing SHIFT + FN together to unlock it.

If this doesnt works try the same using CTRL + FN an ALT + FN keys.

To fix an unresponsive touchpad on your laptop, reactivate it by using the Function key on the keyboard and the Fn key.

This process is different for each computer manufacturer.
If unsure which Function key enables and disables the touchpad, try each one at a time and then
attempt to use the touchpad after each one.

A...Locate the "Fn" key of the laptop keyboard.
The "Fn" key has different colored text or the key is a different color.
B...Locate the function (F1 through F12) key at the top of the keyboard that disables or enables the touchpad on the laptop.
The key typically has an icon that resembles a touchpad with a finger touching it or a touchpad with a diagonal line through it.
C...Press both the "Fn" and touchpad Function key at the same time to reactive the touchpad on your laptop.
Move your finger along the touchpad to verify that it works. Press the combination at any time to disable the touchpad again.
Note: Mac computers use "F2" to enable and disable the touchpad.
D. Sony Vaio Users: Start>Settings>Control Panel>Double click the Mouse icon.
Look at the top left hand side of the page, at the top and make sure that the "Tapping" box is unchecked, if it is checked then, you will uncheck it.

Please open this LINK, scroll down to page no. 2-5 i.e. the section with "To use the Function Hot Keys Fn". There you'll find the details about the functional function keys of your compaq. It seems your function key i.e. Fn key is activated, to deactivate, press and hold down the Fn key while you tap the Numlock key once.

There is function key in your laptop which is blue in print and written Fn which means there are some keys like u say 0 written on M it is zero in numbers which work only when u have switched on your numlock.To get back to M switch-off numlock.

I'm assuming you mean the little icons on the function keys.
You press the Fn key at the lower left side of the keyboard and while holding that down, press the special function key at the top you wish to use.

Press the FN (Function)key and the NmLk (Number lock) key at the same time.

You need to find the special function key that, when used with the Fn key, locks the Fn function on. On my keyboard it's the F11 key.
Press the Fn key and that key and your keyboard will return to normal.
