Our SHE5AL06UC will start running, run the pump like crazy for a couple of minutes (even though it's empty), then stop and the clean light will illuminate. No water ever flows into it. If you mess with it for a while eventually it'll run. I haven't figured out what the magic dance I need to do is, but some combination of canceling the cycle it while it's pumping, opening and closing the door, restarting it or filling it up with some water from a bucket to give it something to actually pump. It seems to pump out just fine if I fill it, for what it's worth, and it will complete a cycle just fine when you finally get lucky and convince it to start. The intermittent nature makes me wonder if it's a funky switch on the float? Or maybe a bad control panel? Anyone have experience with this? I know some other Boschs have a diagnostic test mode, but I haven't seen reference to this model anywhere...
Here is what I found that makes my bosch dishwasher come on. It has the same problems as the OP. I pick the cycle I want press start. The DW will sound like it's trying to drain. I let it run that cycle which takes about 30 seconds. It then starts another cycle that sounds different from the first and when it stops I turn the DW off and then back on, it resets and then it starts the wash cycle. I've done this twice and it has worked both times. I do not know what is causing this but it's better then what I had to do to get it to reset.
I have the same exact symptoms on my BOSCH DW. Have been messing with it for months and it will work for weeks before it stops working properly again. I was about to replace it today before going online for one last effort to keep it going. I tried Micali's method and it worked for me first try! I will continue this method and hopefully get a few more months/years out of it until it completely gives out. Thanks for sharing Micali!

The controller has an intermittent issue. just serviced a bosch with this problem. You can verify it by lightly tapping on the controller with a screw driver handle about 20 seconds into the cycle and it will fill every time and wash every time. If you leave it alone it will run drain pump and then run wash pump then shut off and say clean.
These bosch boards are trash. bad vias and rotten traces.
We have the exact same problem with our Bosch SHE5AL06UC/05 dishwasher. Works great when it works, but we are increasingly having a hard time getting the wash cycle to start.

My SHU43C is just over 3 years old. I had a similar problem recently. First, there were a few floods. Then, the Bosch only drained non-stop. Even when I used the Cancel Drain buttons the drain pump would run without stopping. When I tried to run one of the cleaning cycles, no water entered the machine. Corrective: I removed the base plate, and saw that the red plastic floatation device was in the up position. Using a flashlight and a wooden spoon, I lightly toggled the red float stem down. I pushed regular clean cycle and kept toggling with the red float stem until the rinse water started to enter the machine (turning the red stem seems to also actuate a step in the program). Now the dishwasher runs normally. Voila!

Hi,
It sounds as if the main program board has developed a fault - as it should come to a complete stop. The fact it kept the water valve open with the door open is a serious fault- so I would have it checked before using it again.
Most machines have a water-stop feature - so if it develops a leak - it will shut off the water. This clearly didn't happen.
